We need some perspective here. As Richie Barker himself says:

Hartlepool Mail wrote:
"We will all put our hands up when we miss chances but when you look at the 30 goals we have scored between the four of us, and there have not been many games when we have failed to score, and maybe the criticism is a bit harsh.
"I finished top scorer last season, along with Jon Daly, on nine goals, so to have four players knocking on the door of double figures already is not a disaster."
He added: "I have been through it before in the last 14 years and I will go through it again."
"I keep hearing about how I need this goal or that goal but to have nine by mid-November is not that bad, I don't think.
"Even still, it is not just about my goals. We have players on nine, eight, seven and six.
"I was talking to a centre-forward who plays every week in our league and he has got one.
"Imagine the criticism he would be getting here and we have four players who have already scored more than six goals."

I agree entirely. OK we have missed some goals this season but we have also let in an awful lot of sitters. Barker was almost on the scoresheet again on Sat - brilliant save keeping out his header which would have put us 2 up and comfortable. My main concern is still the fact that we are giving away far too many soft goals. The centre back partnerships of the last few years have formed the key to our success - just look at all the clean sheets we have kept. This season this just isn't happening.

Barker can talk about goals all he wants but two were tap ins against Gainsborough, one was against Morecambe reserves and a handful were penalties. His contribution to the team has been poor, particularly the last few matches and he needs dropping.

Yes it was only the JPT but the conditions were shambolic and they still had to be beaten. The goals were impressive, we were carving them open and Joel was getting in behind the defense superbly. I could count on one hand how many chances we have created in recent games, we try and walk the ball in the back of the net and I don't have any confidence we are ever going to score.

We need Monkhouse back, he is direct and scares defenders. We need our two best strikers upfront and we need our best defender playing. We need to clear out the sh*t like Ali Gibb and we need to allow Gary Liddle to be the attacking force he was last season. If all of those things are allowed to happen we could still push for the play-offs none of the above is being allowed to happen and we are in free fall.
