Yeah, yeah, Wembley and all that, but I still can't get motivated by it.

No it's not just you, Danny Wilson and half the first team squad can't be arsed with it either.

Just a shame 2776 people were arsed really isn't it? If I knew we weren't arsed I could have saved my £10 entrance fee, and £1.50 for some hot water and a bit of bovril powder, what's that all about!

After last night (and the last few performances before that) if I didn't have a season ticket I would watch the match on telly on Sunday out of protest.

I felt cheated by the team after last night, that's for sure. The results elsewhere in the Northern section only serve to underline my annoyance. Pools at Wembley was a REAL possibility if we had won last night. We would have been the favourites, no question. We also couldn't have played so badly again!!!!

Do you not think the fans of the other 3 League One teams beaten by League Two opposition in the Northern Area Quarter Finals all feel the same. There is no logic to Bury, Grimsby, Morecambe & Stockport winning last night. Other than all 4 higher league clubs not taking the competition seriously.

Thats what we said after the Huddersfield game and I think there is more to come. I think we have been deluding ourselves with talk of play-offs or automatic promotion, we are an average side no more no less

I was gutted about the result last night. I don't usually go to these games but this was probably our best chance of going to Wembley.

It hurts even more to know the rest of the teams who got through are all League 2 sides so it gave us an even better chance of getting there (although admittedly it doesn't work like that and we'd still have to beat the Southern finalists to reach Wembley).

The way it works is that you play the Southern winners AT Wembley.

Yeah but in your bitterness surely you're all missing the point.

Pools at Wembley yeah, right, OK. confised confised

But for The Johnstones Paint Trophy?? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Surely a crumb thrown to the lower league because all the meaningful money goes to the Premiership??

And as I am utterly SICK of pointing out, we don't need the money.

I know I don't see these performances but I still think you're going over the top about a meaningless competition. We're in two much more credible competitions.

Aren't we??

No PK, that's bollox.

If the club didn't want to win last night's match they should have told me before I spent money getting piss wet through watching that crap.

Fair enough maybe they told the players it was a worthless cup and to get themselves knocked out- it certainly would explain the way they played- but if I've paid good money to go down and watch then I expect them to at least try to win.

I don't think the lads we're taking it easy on purpose. After all, they want to go to Wembley as much as the fans do. They we're certainly flat last night but quite often they have a bad day in the League.

Aye, it certainly was the way we're playing at the moment.

At this point in time I'm praying that Leeds beat Hereford just so we don't have to be knocked out of another cup by a lower league team.

Your right again Kev, last years final looked like a right boring affair, there's no way we'd want to be involved in something like this is there?

Why is Spike getting so excited, tin pot competition

Pah! Silverware, who needs it?

Look at those joyous fans, sad bastards.

There goes spike again, over excited over a poxy little win in a poxy little cup competition.

Still not the be all and end all is it?? It's still not the league or the FA Cup. It's still a small competition made big by the Football League. Do you ever get fined if you put your reserves out in the FA Cup?? No?? Why not?? Because no-one ever would. You are forced to play in this competition.

Nice photos but it's not a patch on Cardiff. Never could be, it just doesn't mean anything.

Who did they beat in the semi's??

If you rate that then fine, I just dont.

How can it not mean anything? We are a 99 year old club who has never won a single competition. We've 'won' (more like gained) a handful of promotions and that's it.

We'll never win the champions league or the uefa cup, we'll never win the fa cup, we'll never win the carling cup, we've had two chances to win League Two (division four whatever you want to call it), there's only one competition left, and playing against teams in the two divisions we've spent our entire history in means it's a competition we have a realistic chance of winning.

Of course if means something.

I agree with everyithing Mr Ripper has said in this thread although I'm slightly annoyed at him for showing us what we have missed out on.

Kevin - You are well out of touch on this one if you think it doesn't matter. The way you go on makes it seem like you would rather Pools withdrew from the competition. As well as the extra money and memories from reaching the final the knock on effect and interest in HUFC would do Pools no harm whatsoever.

Ptbap - Well said clappp

If we had won and we eventually got through to the final at Wembley I bet all these people who deride this competition would be scrabbling for tickets and singing "we are going to win the cup "

Hmmm, if you like PK.

That's like saying you wouldn't play the Wednesday lottery because the jackpot on a Saturday is bigger.

Despite having a better chance of winning a smaller amount, you'd rather plug away and hope in vain that one day you'll win the biggy. Meanwhile every week some lucky bastard in Doncaster/Swansea/Wrexham/Blackpool/Bristol/Port Vale is laughing all the way to the bank and handing in their notice at work, but you'll plod on cursing your luck and saying "there's always next time".

There's optimism and then there's stupidity.

Well you've made yourself judge, jury accused, and jailer on that one haven't you?? I can assure you hand on heart that if we had, which we haven't remember, so this is all conjecture, so no-ones a hypocrite (because it's not going happen, right??) that no I wouldn't have been scrambling for a ticket. I don't care about this competition. That was my opening statement so how can you say I've changed my mind just because you're sounding off??

The lottery is merely a tax on the stupid and no I don't play it. Either on Wednesday or Saturday, or their futile scratch cards. You want to rebuild London carry on, I won't be contributing. There's a one in 14 million chance of winning the lottery, there's a one in 47 chance of winning the Paint Pot.

I don't care about either.

And while we're on the subject it's pointless anyone else caring either. We got knocked out. No ones going anywhere right??
