Here, Beetles are NOT crap cars; Beetles are special

I used to have one that wouldn't let anyone but me drive her! If my other half ever went out in it, he would get stranded in the middle of nowhere, or else end up storming up the garden path with a gear stick in his hand. He just couldn't accept the idea that you had to put exactly the right pressure on the controls and no more

She had a great souped-up engine, tho. You could see other motorists at junctions thinking, oh, it's just a Beetle, I'll nip in here in front.....then the look of horror on their faces as we bore down on them!

Death traps.

I remember a certain bunker member who had an orange one. With one black door. Some of it was at the kerb and the rest of it was in the garage.

More recently I borrowed another orange one to go to work. I got in and cranked the seat back, she being 5'1" and me being 6'0" and the bloody thing propelled me into the back seat.

Lovely vehicles though, air cooled you know........

But, yeah, why were so many of them orange? You don't get other orange cars.
Actually, mine had been metallic turquoise when young, but had faded a little over the years (and I know all about that)
Thinking about it, am really missing her now tho.....wish I'd thought twice about leaving her darn sarf, but I thought she probably wouldn't survive a Northern winter

If it's on the tradey isn't it more likely to be at the railway end where Athletic used to play?
The fields next to AEI/RWI/the Canteen were accidents just waiting to happen.
Ferreting land!

I know a lad who backed his beetle into a parked Reliant three wheeler...he said it sort of sprang back and 'twatted' his beetle after he hit it . Result, unmarked Reliant (he said the fibre glass 'flexed') and a beetle with a seriously dented engine cover. rolfl

My beetle was a more tasteful shade of orange called "Clemantine"
