my wife made a rare appearance at the match on saturday, her first in 14 or so years and only her fifth match ever. (weirdly it was the third time she had seen pools play brighton.) thinking back to the last couple of games she went to, i've convinced myself that she witnessed john macphail saving a penalty in each of her last 2 games, brighton away and (i think) stoke at home, both about 1993. can anyone back this up for me please? getting on a bit now, memory going.

my daughter's first game on saturday - what a sad weekend to pick to come home.

Who would play in goal if Big Jan got crocked during a game? Ritchie Humphreys has played in just about every other posistion........ Would Richie Barker be any good...?

We were talking about this on Saturday- you would think that one of the squad must be a bit of a keeper on the quiet for DW to be confident enough not to have a reserve goalie on the bench.

I reckon Ben Clark.

Any other guesses?

David Foley would probably give me as much confidence catching crosses as big Jan!

I believe the standby keeper is Willie Boland, so I hope we a second standby.

This got me thinking about the time when Pools played the Gooners at the Vic and had the keeper sent off. Who played in goal in that game for what I think was most of the 2nd half and made a decent attempt.

For some reason I think it was Shane Reddish. though it could be bollocks.

I reckon it was Reddish as well.

Neither of the stats sites reveal it, Reddish was definitely playing though.

We probably played better without him at the back rolfl

Has it happened to the opposition?

The last time I can remember off the top of my head was Jim Stannard away at Fulham just before we beat Palace.

Think Andy Saville knocked away the penalty.
