Well done to the England team tonight for a brave performance and leaving Le Coupe with heads held high.

But...

...who was the dodgy geezer bringing the Web Ellis trophy onto the pitch with the screaming kid? He looked like some tramp off the street! They even dropped the base on the way through the tunnel!

Can anyone shed any light on who this was?

Ha ha ha...funniest part of the night!

That bog trotter of a referee spoilt the game imo, it was a try in my eyes anyhow.

Maybe it was maybe it wasn't but the first SA penalty should have gone to us for diving in. Their tackler got off his feet in attempting to win the ball, wrapped the England player up and the bloody ref did England for failing to release.

Also their hooker should have gone for obstruction on Taity.

But!!! It was a more even game than we had any right to expect, refereeing apart, and we drew a fair amount of blood. Stopping South Africa getting across the line was a great achievement but ultimately won us nowt.

We still have our heads held high though, more so than the host nation, the Aussies and the much vaunted All niggers.

Le tramp was one Jean-Pierre Rives - who I'm sure would prefer to be remembered this way

They gave us lots of culture, art and music to excess, they also gave us two world wars and Dr Rudolf Hess!

Strange they never took up the game with the oval ball. Is there a reason? I would've thought it was right up their alley. Maybe they prefer real wars to the proxy type.

The full script:

Noel Coward wrote:

Don't let's be beastly to the Germans,
Now our victory is ultimately won.
Let us treat them very kindly,
As we would a valued friend.
We might them out some bishops,
As a form of lease and lend.

Let's be sweet to them
And day by day repeat to them
That sterilization simply isn't done.
Let's sweetly sympathize again,
And help the scum to rise again,
But don't let's be beastly to the Hun.

We must be kind
And with an open mind,
We must endeavour to find a way
To let the Germans know
That now the war is over,
They are not the ones who have to pay.

We must be sweet
And tactful and discreet,
And now they've suffered defeat,
We mustn't let
Them feel upset,
Or ever get the feeling
That we're cross with them or hate them.
Our future policy must be to reinstate them.

Don't let's be beastuly to the Germans,
For they're civilized,
When all is said and done.
Though they gave us science, culture, art, and music, to excess,
They also gave us two world wars and Dr. Rudolph Hess.

Let's be meek to them
And turn the other cheek to them,
And try to arouse their latent sense of fun.
Let's give them full air parity,
And treat the rats with charity,
But don't let's be beastly to the Hun!

Don't let's be beastly to the Germans.
You can't deprive a gangster of his gun!
Though they've been a little naughty
To the Czechs and Poles and Dutch,
I can't believe those countries
Really minded very much.

Let's be free with them
And share the BBC with them.
We mustn't prevent them basking in the sun!
Let's soften their defeat again,
And build their bloody fleet again,
But don't let's be beastly to the Hun!

Oh they've got one, it's just not very good. Probably third tier internationally, although they'd probably beat Scotland.

The Germans didn't start two World Wars.

If you wanna get to the root cause and instigator blame the Austrians on both occassions.

Oh please!

If you want to be pedantic; yes, the first was started by the Austro-Hungarians and the second by a Austrian born but naturalised German .
