When someone who is coming over here to live/work from another country and brings their own car with them. Is that car subject to the same rules,ie must have a UK MOT cert and be taxed and insured here BEFORE being driven on UK roads.

How does this work, do they impound it until taxed, insured and tested or are they allowed to just bring it in unchecked and drive it straight away on the road. sctatchinghead

It has been bugging me for a while and today I saw an Opel with fodgy number plates that could not have passed an MOT.

There was something on the news recently about the number of motoring offences committed by foreign nationals having risen. Easy targets for traffic police.

With all the camera's checking for tax on cars now they are closing the gap and I doubt the percentages of untaxed cars are that high now.

If they are from an EEC country there are no real constraints. There used to be mind. I once got my French car impounded at Southampton!

I haven't got any tax. :uhoh: It ran out on Sunday. Went to get my new one on Monday and couldn't find my bloody MOT certificate so have had to ut it in for it's test today and borrow a car to get to work!!
Going to get it later today to put in my brand new Pools tax disc holder.

PS. Anyone know if the post offices are open because of the strike?
