With the tax threshold being £12570 and it will be until 2028 means you will end up paying tax on the basic State Pension in the near future.

what i,d like to know is why cannot they take th tax off at source. most of us have lived our lives with PAYE and are too ol for a big change. som pensioners will get themselves in the shit with this who like me recieve X and spend it all. saving my arse.

Woman mid thirties on a talk show the other day said 25% of pensioners were millionaires and the triple lock should abolished, nearly had to buy a new tv as I was going to put my foot through it.
The triple lock will be abolished to be replaced calculating the rise linked to annual wage rises like before not that I agree with that as wages don’t keep pace with inflation. I would imagine a newly elected government would abolish it if they had a decent majority.

its because so many in the media are years away from the pension and are either not interested or hate the idea of paying for oldies to get it. possibly their mummy and daddie o not need a state pension on a saga cruise.

The state pension should be free of tax.

What's the point of giving everybody a certain amount and then taxing say £200 of it? It's utterly ridiculous, they might as well just not give you the increase, or make sure the tax code always runs in line the state pension.

The original tax threshold was frozen until 2026 by the Conservatives, Labour have frozen it to 2028 now, as your earnings increase because of the threshold freeze you will pay more tax, bit of a fallacy Labour saying they won’t increase personal taxation.

Aye, the minimum wage….. get pissed off with Ministers saying how they’ve given you a rise, when it’s not their money to give out,…. All they do is lose jobs because the business carries the can.
Same as the mew employment laws where you get full rights from day one, a skivers charter…new employees should be on probation for a couple of months to weed out the skivers and bull shitters.

depending where you live the minimum wage has become the maximum wage or the normal wage with skilled workers only paid a small amount above it. firms like stagecoach who can be found across the country pay different rates for the same jobs depending on the wages in that area. Therefore its the skilled worker who is impacted by the minimum wage indirectly.

only an increase for the least well off and not for the higher tax rate payers who coul afford it more.
