Striker

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

Vadaine Oliver...we are certainly shopping in a different market to the likes of Carlisle and York! At best a foil for reid to work off with him being a target man.

Won't make much difference if we don't create enough though. We're in need of a winger or an attacking play maker in midfield. Hopefully in the way.

I tend to agree. Big target man who is a different type of player to Reid or Johnson, but he'll need decent service into the box and that has been in short supply so far. And he'll also need to get match fit!

At least Grayson says Francis will be fit for Saturday. He should be back playing as a 10 where he can do most damage.

The last home game we were crying out for someone like him, a presence. Could turn out to be a good signing.

would of rather had a younger striker from a championship or premier league team like the one Gateshead had on loan from Derby who scored a lot of goals for them. Mayne ask Swindon if we can loan Jake Tabor who prior to signing for them played non league and scored a hell of a lot of goals but at best bis a sub for them.

Is he the scorer or provider…..the stats would suggest provider.
It’s what he does….. he’s a terrier.

He's obviously not the main striker, or hasn't been, but more of a target man, holding the ball up and occupying the opposition central defenders. Might be just what we need, given we can get the ball up to him. Just a thought but he could be the perfect foil for Campbell, Adam can be persuaded out of hiding.
We'll see what SG has in store for him in due course.

He had a decent spell earlier this year on loan to Shrewsbury in League One - 4 starts, 9 sub appearances, 2 goals. 1 assist. I guess that's why Pools have signed him - if he can still do it 2 levels above Pools he should be able to perform in the NL.

Not sure what went on while he was at Bradford City. He signed for them when Mark Hughes was collecting players for fun but hardly got a look in in terms of starting games. Injured or out of favour?

Interesting summary of Oliver's career to date and what he offers Pools tactically:https://staceywest.net/2025/09/12/former-city-striker-finds-13th-club-drops-into-national-league/

With most players it's a matter of wait and see!

Often a player 'fits' in one team/club but not in another however talented.
Take Jack Grealish for example. A world beater at Villa but didn't quite fit in at Man City.
Now at Everton he appears to be back at somewhere he belongs.
Scorer of 1st half hat-trick in town end goal for school team.
