Which are well deserved and I hope Featherstone gets a good lump to see him alright etc etc.
But my question is....does the player get Everything...Gate receipts and everything sold on the day of his Testimonial??
Or does the 'owner' take a 50/50 slice of everything??
How does it work???
I'm thinking if I was an owner of say...Pools....I'd let him have EVERYTHING.
Is that how it works?? sctatchinghead

I assume the player takes the profits for putting the event on after costs?

I hope he makes a decent amount, given that it's a one off game, rather than a series of events that others have had in the past.

Think it will only be gate receipts plus maybe some of the special merchandise monies that he'll receive. Though should imagine it'll be tax free

Say 4k crowd at average £10 a piece plus merch-
Ball park 50k will help pay a large chunk off his mortgage.

Not a bad pay day- I've had 22 years at the chalkface (twice as long) and will be getting the square root of fuck all, on Saturday!

Why would it be tax free? It’ll be taxed like normal income surely? I’d also be very surprised if he got 50k. As said above if it’s profit after gate receipts, I’d have thought it would be more like 40k total receipts (as kids tickets are cheaper.) What’s the profit on that? 20k?

Don’t players or supporters/the club normally do fund raising events in a players testimonial season ?

once it was a season long affair of doing events and a testimonial game at the end of it. once it was a regular thing in team sports but would not be surprised now if nicky is our last.

We'll never know the exact figure will we- it was purely hypothetical!

I was working on the assumption that Pools kept the bar/ refreshment receipts. £10 was an average amount per person including concessions (I don't even know what the gate prices are- for a full adult). Leeds will bring at least 600- as their fans hold Grayson in high esteem- so was estimating the gate to be around the 4k mark,(hopefully more for Fev).

I believe Testimonial payments are tax free. Again it was a simple calculation and would hope that other running costs as you put it, wouldn't be deducted for a one off game.

I'm sure Fev will disclose to you the actual amount he receives, if you ask him nicely via social media. Then you can tell me I'm wrong and I'll bow to your superior knowledge whilst begging for forgiveness! stpid yawn2

Testimonial receipts are taxable if the arranging of a testimonial match/ function is covered by the player's contract. If it is 'voluntary' or arranged by an independent group of supporters, then it may pass the tests set by the 2017 legislation on taxing testimonials and so be tax free.

I would have thought some one like Goffy an ardent Pools fan would have organised ‘A Night with Nicky Featherstone’ ?

Don't agree with them nowadays, maybe in the past, but no one is forced to attend. Featherstone deserves one, but yet again, surely the club could have arranged a better opposition than a Leeds XI

like who. its nearly impossible for clubs like pools now to get a top side full of first teamers to visit the vic for what is more or less a pre season friendly. thy prefer to go abroad nowadays to do that type of thing. he certainly deserves one and is now a rarety in the game being at one club that long. in the near future kids will ask what a testimonial match was.

To be fair, back in the day players were poorly paid and the testimonial for players was basically a lumper to see you over.
Things have moved on and should only be for exceptional players service at the lower levels.

its such a rare event now in football that even with higher wages players need something back for just being loyal to one club for over 10 years. far better than players moving every season or so for a few quid extra in the same league.

Featherstone turned his back on Pools a couple of seasons ago but only resigned as no one else came up with a better offer.
