Is it possible to buy brown sauce actually made in this country…thought I’d cracked it with my new purveyor to find in the very small print it was concocted in fecking Spain :angry-tappingfoot:

I always get Hammonds chop sauce, I'm pretty sure that's still made in the UK

fine if you like everything dry and tasteless if you use em for certain things. As for sauce i only use it to hide the taste of any food i am not keen on.

I can’t imagine the Spanish smothering their food in brown sauce, Spanish cuisine has its own rich array of sauces, but brown sauce, as understood in British terms, is not one of them.
HP Brown Sauce is no longer made in the UK. Production was moved to the Netherlands in 2007 by its then-owner, Heinz. While the sauce was originally produced in the United Kingdom, it is now made at a Heinz factory in the Netherlands.
It still has the Houses of Parliament on the label though.

Its not as if heinz are a british company anyway as they originated in the usa. as for spanish and other foreign foods they put many sauces in their food whilst ours is more or less plain without any at the outset. i,m dine with anything without sauce but many like to spice things up a bit with the least effort possible.

HP Sauce was originally made in the United Kingdom, specifically by Frederick Gibson Garton in Nottingham, England. The recipe and brand were later sold to the Midland Vinegar Company, which later became HP Foods.
Heinz bought HP Foods, the parent company of HP Sauce, in June 2005 and s now made in the Netherlands.

I grew up having Hammonds ‘chop sauce’ on almost everything I ate but after lockdown they ramped up their prices. I think it’s about £2.60 a bottle (plastic not glass anymore) now and the Aldi brown sauce is about 89p! As much as I like the stuff I don’t like getting ripped off so I dropped Hammonds after about 50 years.

Sounds a bit like my relationship with Pools…

Is brown sauce made from the lining of a cows intestine hence the Spanish export it all to Britain?

WTF you on about Snowy, I am not disputing where it’s made, jumping in with both feet as its one of my posts, i am pointing out brown sauce is not part of the Spanish cuisine, I can’t ever remember seeing brown sauce in the condiments in an authentic Spanish restaurant, of course if it was El Chippie in Benidorm it might be.
Apology would be accepted or admit you got it wrong although I doubt you will.

Nah…he hides and hopes it goes away…or….. implies I’m an uneducated yokel who’s never been out of Hartlepool because I don’t constantly chunter on that I’m Phineas Fogg unlike Jamie who does……..because he lives in the Glittering Luton of the Far East.
Jamie see’s himself as a combination of Captain Cook, a travel agent and the surprised man who has only ever been to Filey ……by getting on the wrong bus.
I await with more relish our very own Sander’s of the River’s tale and his leaking canoe up the Limpopo.
Cue Tarzan call.. Areeeaaaeeeaaaaa….or was it George of the Jungle, doubtless we’ll be told.

A few rants there Snowy, you are on a roll, tbh I didn’t bother reading most of them oh so boring. Derwent even getting in on your act, it’s like when in a fight he comes along and kicks you when you are on the floor after some else knocks you down.
It might surprise you HP Sauce is available here in the supermarkets along with many other U.K./European products. I have a couple of bottles in the cupboard, I put it on my bacon or sausage sarnies.
Bacon sarnie time with proper real brown original sauce, HP, the one and only, oops boasting again and being snobby, can’t help myself.

Well you must eating plenty of it, the UK imports a wide variety of fruits and vegetables from Spain, with a significant portion being fresh produce. Key imports include tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, and citrus fruits. Additionally, Spain exports significant quantities of stone fruits like peaches, plums, and apricots, as well as grapes, melons, and berries. There was an article a few years back where the Spanish were using human excrement to fertilise the vegetables in the fields.
It won’t be long till your eating the chlorinated chicken and hormone injected beef from the States as well.

Jamie, as you’re thousands of miles away from civilisation as a missionary to retired contractors…..do you get all your info of bizarre news outlets ( BBC etc) because it doesn’t half show for someone who doesn’t like the UK you spend a lot of time hanging on clinging to the debris of your very distant relationship.

When did I say I don’t like the U.K. apart from its very expensive and the cost of living is going through the roof, currently my preferred location is Thailand. It could change, Vietnam is very good, loads of choice out there Snowy, you want to get out and about, as I said there is life past Greathem traffic lights.
