Anyway, this was all 40 years ago

MutleyRules wrote:BBC coverage co-host Andy Kershaw was heavily critical of the event in his autobiography No Off Switch, stating, "Musically, Live Aid was to be entirely predictable and boring. As they were wheeled out – or rather bullied by Geldof into playing – it became clear that this was another parade of the same old rock aristocracy in a concert for Africa, organised by someone who, while advertising his concern for and sympathy with, the continent didn't see fit to celebrate or dignify the place by including on the Live Aid bill a single African performer." Kershaw also described the event as "irritating, shallow, sanctimonious and self-satisfied" for failing to confront the fundamental causes of the famine and being "smug in its assumption that a bunch of largely lamentable rock and pop floozies was capable of making a difference, without tackling simultaneously underlying problems".

We first had the Biafra conflict in Nigeria bring thes events to our attention and that was in the 60’s but the cycle continues to this day……maybe it’s the management of funds and the governments that needs reviewing..
Events like this are mutually beneficial to the artistes performing and the charities benefitting …but won’t solve these crises.

Anyway, this was all 40 years agoand tonight on BBC2 there are a couple of programmes on the subject - worth a watch I feel.

suppose you could say anything received is better than nothing.

can you prove this and sounds like a rant from the far right who want every penny piece to stay in this country. its not some little charity we are on about run by volunteers but a vast organisation that needs paid staff to run it. same thing with the britsh legion on poppy day against other organisations for ex forces and there families. due to its size the legion is bound to get less by percentage than the smaller organisations due to its actual size and not people running a wheel of it for themselves.

What the f*ck you on about, I am on about how the money from Band Aid was distributed supposedly raised for famine struck countries in Africa, f*ck all to do with U.K. charities and btw I very far from being from right wing activist group.
Summary of where the funds went from Band Aid,
The funds raised by Band Aid were intended for famine relief in Ethiopia, but there was controversy regarding the actual delivery of the aid. BBC investigations and the World Service reported that a significant portion of the money may have been diverted by rebel groups for military purposes, with some claims suggesting as little as 5% reached the intended recipients

Think Status Quo kicked things off in Wembley? The highlights for me were Bowie with his scratch band (he'd been off the road for a while) and Queen, who absolutely smashed it. Don't think The Cars played live (I might be wrong) but when they played a recording of 'Drive' as backing for a video of starving African kids I might have shed a tear. Of course the song has nowt to do with Africa or being hungry, but donations went through the roof at that point.
Won't be watching tonight - You had to be there Maaan...

1 0 up at half time. 25 mins later 4 1 down.
Then went to Derby 4 days later on me 18th birthday. A 3 0 defeat.
But a great cup win at Macclesfield in the FA Cup were there was hell on at half time.
The good old days.
Suppose we were spoilt then compared to today.
Sorry for drifting of music but it is allowed.

I was at all those games too. Did you go to the opening game of the 84/85 season at Stockport? Absolute fucking hell on all game, most frightened I've ever been at a football match.

Ye.
Got very nasty from half time when there fans come into the away end from both sides of the ground.
I'm sure the Greensides coach got turned back out of town just before the game so we had no chance.
Was a mental era the 80s like
