Nearly 2500 miles to occupied Ukraine. Yes Putins thugs are knocking on our door. We're closer to some of the ongoing and savage conflicts in Africa.

Or viewing our cathedrals. Or sailing off our shores. Or hacking our infrastructure. Or buzzing our airspace. Or sabotaging underwater pipes/cables. The tied together world we live in has been around such a long time. We managed to fight a war in the Falklands over 40 years ago. We were geared up for a war with the Soviets over 70 years ago at least. The world has only shrunk since then.

Were the U.K. geared up for the Falklands, in a way yes but 2 cruise liners had to be commandeered to transport troops. The U.K. lost 6 ships, 13 bombs struck others with out exploding due to the fuses being set wrong which could have resulted in bigger losses and gave the Argentineans the advantage.


How is the U.K. geared up today, in hindsight we are were being led into a false sense of security that we might never have to defend our shores. If there is a next time it won’t be a land invasion, Putin has tried that in Ukraine for 3 years securing only a small area but incurring hundreds of thousands of lost lives and armoury.
The first thing that would happen is all undersea communications along with pipelines would be cut, next missile or drone attacks. The Sky Sabre ground-based air defence system can intercept multiple cruise missiles, aircraft and UAVs up to 25 km away. However, there are only about six Sky Sabre systems in service with the British Army, and at least two are deployed overseas, to the Falkland Islands and Poland. Once we had been bombed into submission with no communications or infrastructure the U.K. would have to surrender.
I think in general if anyone wanted to invade the U.K. nowadays we would be f***** !

It was a targeted assassination not a widespread threat. According to MI5, only a couple of months ago our biggest threat was IS and Iran.

Why would Putin attack the UK, if he was going to he'd come through Europe to get to us. If he wants to put the lights out or interrupt our communications networks he's got the means certainly but why would he want to? Why hasn't he even threatened to do it?
