I used to love 'shoot' magazine, especially the results section in the back with a description of all of the goals scored that week.

A fine season that one, Sir Cyril takes charge and saves us with us rock bottom with nine points plus the Loids weren't in the football league! no wonder they won the Conference though playing the likes of Fisher Athletic, Methyr Tydfil, Welling!!

The weirdest one of all is Glasgow Rangers down at 8th in the Scottish Premier, how did that happen  sctatchinghead

clappp very happy memories elvis. you always knew the season was getting close when they came out,one division a week wasn't it. I used to keep mine updated for all of about 2 weeks,by then pools would have slipped into the bottom four and I would have lost half the tabs.
whatever happened to shoot magazine then?

that must have been the season Swindon were stopped from going up after winning the play-offs.
And they'll have been dancing in the streets of Raith, by the look of things.

it looks like the last time Liverpool won the League,Man U way down in 13th.
The "big 3" (sic) all in the 2nd division, M/bro only just avoiding the drop by the skin of their teeth. If I'm right in thinking, they hammered the Mags 4-1 to stay up and send Bournemouth down. What a fix!!!!

1989/90, Maidstone United were playing their first season in the old fourth division at the time

I hated Maidstone, always remember them as being the club that targeted Pools when it came to re-election time. I’m sure they tried to oust Pools on several occasions, but we always managed to scrape enough votes together to see off their challenge.

To be fair, they probably deserved their chance at league football and many neutrals argued we had had far too many chances over the years, but that’s not how my biased eyes saw it. They were trying to take away the team I loved, I detested them and laughed like fook when they went tits-up a few years later.

We get a mention or two here

By the way, I loved the Shoot! League tables too.

I remember in the pre teletext days writing all the results down in the back of the newspaper- they had a section down the side of the page for any of you too young to remember- and then using the results with the previous weeks tables to work out the new tables and updating my league ladders.

Hours of fun!

Then teletext came along and made it much easier to just see the results and tables at will.
