Hartlepool is not like London where people get public transport to work and when it’s not transporting people to work the tourists takes the slack up. You can open as many branch lines as you like, in the old days people didn’t have cars and relied on public transport. Companies even provided transport, buses, but there are not the big employers today employing hundreds of people. Public transport used to run through ICI Wilton bringing people in from the surrounding villages, no requirement now as there is not enough demand for it. If the majority of people didn’t have cars they wouldn’t be able to travel to work.

the big question is will the same number have their cars in 10 years time with everything possible put in their way having them. its too late then to start up any alternatives if they do not exist before that happens. id i,m still around by then and looking at the last 5 years and multiplying that by 2 i for one will be priced off the roads.

Wakey Wakey…that’s the problem, there’ll be no cars when diesel and petrol go,, we’ll need public transport because the only people driving will be those who can afford electric cars…we’ll need to revert to how it was in the fifties…buses and trains.

It seems to me that for most industries net zero is applicable to stuff made or used here in the UK.
If they consider the carbon cost of extracting rare earth materials, then refining, shipping, decommissioning, and disposal, there's probably f*ck all that is deemed to be net zero that actually is. Do the mining companies in far flung countries use solar powered electrical machinery, do they f*ck? Are these huge merchant ships traversing the seas under sail? All we are doing as a small emitter of Carbon in the greater scheme is saving the conscience of the naive zealots who are advising and influencing naive politicians who recognise nothing more than tax raising opportunities.

If the Green Loons got their way we’d have the lifestyle of peasants in the 1700’s …turnip surprise for tea anyone.

eventually they will become worthless as high fuel prices, higher tax rates and insurance will price many off the road. if you cannot persuade people to conform just price em out. can see the diesals going first with people in fear of what it could cost them thanks to the government.
