Blast from the past

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

6,000 odd crowds on New Years Day. I reckon we would have achieved that today if not for the very stupid ticket only shite at Pools. Last home game a old woman ordered a tea at half time and was unable to pay by cash...What a massive own goal this no cash crap is by Raj must be costing him tens of thousands of pounds over the season. Why do they not open one cash turn style and one cash food n drink unit. banghead

cannot do stuff like that. you,ll be accused of talking common sense. we are not unique doing this and it would be fine if they sold out of all food and drink and we had a full house every game . fans with cash only could ask another to pay for them and give em the cash. however why should they as it smacks of being a kid under 16 asking an adult to take em in if it was a A certificate film. mind you don,t pools do that with an under 14. ludicrous.

there was a rumour around in the game that pools actually did that themselves in the 80,s. it came from a chairman of a 4th division club via the players and not a joke. do not know if there was any truth in this.

Playing marbles in the gutter on the way to School and back. Very cheap but great fun and lots of bragging rights. We never needed expensive computers and mobile phones to entertain ourselves. Bloody hell we used to make boagies from prams bottoms and go down the most dangerous hills for fun. Went home with grazed knees and elbows on a good day and smashed up faces on a bad day. Never put us off like we were all hard as fook from 5 yrs upwards. I cannot remember many if any bored or miserable kids back then. We lived life the hard but the best way and I still have great memories of those innocent wonderful days. We could do anything we put our minds to nothing fazed us totally focused and unstoppable.

Not sure any card collection offers got to completion. I used to buy the football player albums book to put those packs of cards in you bought. It always got to the stage of getting doublers and waisting even more pocket money. banghead

I think my two years at the Art College, were my best. Still living at home, no bills, no responsibility going to Pools- every home and most away.
We didn't have the best team in those days - (when Houchen was manager) under HH but they put a shift in. We did quite well up until he hung his boots up, and then it fell apart.

Also frequenting the many ale houses in and around Church Street. Used to love a couple of pints of Trophy and games of Pool in the Clarendon on a Wednesday lunchtime - halcyon days!

I forgot about the farthing it is probably the best of all. I have collected coins / notes from around the world for many years now. I like the Indian coins and some South American ones. One of my favorite coins is pesetas from 1868 to 1982. These all had two dates one of the front and one on the back. The date in a star is the actual date and the other is the authorisation date. A hell of a lot of foreign notes actually look like monopoly money rather than actual currency.

The date in a star is the actual date and the other is the authorisation date. A hell of a lot of foreign notes actually look like monopoly money rather than actual currency.
