Following on from the best players thread, we’ll have far more options on poor players.

its not the players who did nothing for the club who we expected little from, its those who were decent before they arrived but were only here for a wage to keep em in the game a little longer who annoyed me. we have had a few recently on short term contracts but a name who always comes to mind from the earlier part of the 60,s was john stonehouse. no prises for guessing what surname i used for that fraud.

Luke George that Midfielder we had one of many players who have been time wasters and robbing a salary from the club.

About 490 minutes equals about 8 hours worth.

He later got a job as a roundabout in Newcastle.

I quite liked John Gollogly, he took no shit. I remember him in a50/50 challenge with Archie Stephens at ayresome park. Gollogly never flinched, Archie Stephens crumpled to the floor and was stretchered off, it was beautiful.
Years later in the mid 90s we used to go the arena nightclub in Middlesbrough and John Gollogly used to run it, always had time for a chat. A really nice bloke and very funny.

John 'sicknote' Gallagher, who had previously been at the parish of carTOON. Robbed a chunky wage in the early 90's. Remember him coming back from one of his many injuries only to run into an advertising hoarding about 5 minutes into the game (think that was against West Brom).

We had a well built hard man midfielder in late 70s called George cannot recall his sir name. Looked about 50 but was nearer 33ish. If memory serves he was a ex boro star of the past.

We signed a forward from Notts County where he scored 28 goals.
Same era as Chris Freestone.
Scored the winner v Millwall in the FA Cup on a Sunday lunchtime.
Black combed back hair first name might of been Gary.

Can't think of his Surname.

Must be someone knows?

There was a proper press conference when he signed. He ended up a flop.

As I was banned my solicitor argued that I wasn't actually in the Ground. He said it was like in years gone by kids would peer through an hole in the fence so technically I wasn't IN the ground.
Good result for me and a good result for Pools. :-D
On the Tyne Tees News the Commentator said something along the lines of...Gary Jones scored the winner in the 89th minute and the fans raised the roof...queue shot of me on the roof cheering away.
I was also featured in a cartoon in the Mail's weekly cartoon.

Tommy McGuigan was class but you are probably too young to have witnessed his silky skills. I am astonished to this day as to why nobody took him higher. Nice fella as well.

Great shout KPG clappp

I knew I'd forgotten somebody decent - loved Hugh the Hammer- his show real of Pools goals on YouTube is amazing. The twice taken free kick (think it was against Blackpool - though happy to be corrected) was brilliant.

The goal against Luton was incredible and one of my all time favourites -think that's the hardest I've seen a ball struck live- and was lucky enough to be in the Town End, inline with it hitting the back of the net.

That Luton game 4 3 win is probably the best night midweek game I've ever been to.
Quality entertainment from start to finish.

The good the bad n ugly even sub 1000 crowds
Ye I was part of that shit.

But now I've got no interest in today's acceptance of Superfanship who don't seem to have a problem with were we are today.

I guess you never saw McPhail. One of the best defenders to ever wear the blue and white. A Mackem mate of mine could not believe they allowed him to leave them to come to us. He was a fecking legend.

Aye, I liked John McPhail. I wouldn't have fancied playing against him and Mick Smith as a centre half pairing. He wasn't much of a manager mind -Not that I'd say that to him! bbolt

Only other midweek game that I've witnessed in the flesh, that matches it for drama was Tranmere away in the playoff semi final

That said, we were shite that night, gave away a 2 goal lead but thankfully one of the few times lady luck has been firmly on our side- McAteer sent off, Dimi had a blinder and Humpty.exorcised the ghost of Cheltenham . It'll be 20 years ago, this year!
