From what I remember of an IT course in the dim and distant past, it's just a matter of getting hold of a format disk and running it?

Would that be the recovery disc that you make when you first get the puter ?

I might be able to help here.
If your running windows XP you might not even have a floppy disk drive to put a format disk into cos there just not needed anymore. You can normally do one of two things.
1, use the recovery disk that you created when you first got the computer (there should be a walk through guide on there to remove and re-install windows.
2, put the windows xp disk in (if you have it) and run the format tool on there.

make sure you format all partitions if there's more than 1.
