agree with the first 4 but not peter kay. nothing for me has ever got close to pheonix nights before or after.. still laugh at the episode where he bought a giant cock and balls where the seller said, just put these eyes on it brian and call it sammy the snake. even better when he converted the durex machine in the bogs to a sweet dispenser.

present day comedians are a different breed than the ones from the past where you could laugh at em before they said anything. bobby thompson, eric morecambe and jimmy james were a different breed to to many of todays who look as if they are going to give a lecture to the audiance rather than cracking jokes. mind you not all from the past were funny for me. the most famous ones who i could hardly raise a smile at were ken dodd , laurel and hardy and anybody famous from the usa.

They do that because the stages in big theatres and venues like the O2 are feckin' huge - if they stood still people might realise what a stupid idea it is to pay a small fortune for tickets to watch something that costs buttons to put on.

exactly. they are more light hearted political messages coming from them rather that jokes. i,d guess we have all seen much better commedians who never got past the working mens club scene who were funny without having special men only nights for them to do their act.

I agree. The participants are all carefully selected for their DEI credentials. Always at least one gay, a couple of ethnic minorities, straight white men are rarely seen. BBC political agenda disguised as a game show.

just the same with contestants on pointless. there always seem to have at least one same sex couple on and a non white or mixed one. fine we should not have a show full of permanent white straight couples but lets keep minorities down to the percentage of them there actually is and not more.

I like a comedian who can make you laugh with their own personality, someone you can relate to, the sort of person you can relate from experience in your for instance…..I first encountered Chubby Brown in 1980 at a ‘Striperama’ in Darlington of all places for a works do and he instantly reminded me of people I worked with, rough diamonds but funny….with life experience you can relate to.

I agree. Minorities are vastly over represented on the BBC to the point of absurdity.

personally i wanted to dislike chubby brown when i first saw him in his get up. NE dickhead i thought but then he started his act so i warmed to him.

I've met Chubby Brown and he was a nice bloke.

My mates dad is chubbs best friend and they both live in Stokesley. I met him a couple of times and he is a very sound bloke. He once said to me regarding his show " it's just an act and my way of earing a living " but unfortunately some take it very seriously " and thats despite the fact I am a comedian.

He just reminds me of some the rough uns you worked and laughed with till I became civilised in 85….and opted for the soft life.

shows how thick people are when they cannot tell the difference from an act to real life. nothing new in this with those playing baddies in the past getting grief away from a film set or others feel shocked when meeting them to find out they are completely different to the parts they play. did they actually expect christopher lee to bite em in the neck or or whoever plays a tv doctor to write a sick note out for them. shock horror tubby is a sound bloke. so why shouldn.t he be. some with a mr.nice guy act certainly were not. think our mate jimmy saville.

Problem is a lot of people who read newspapers and watch news channels actually believe every single word. It's that silly that Chubby once punched a bloke on the peer in Blackpool. He said the bloke came up to him and his wife on the peer and thought he would imitate Chubby but got punched for his filthy language ( he doesn't use that language in public ) in front of woman. Funny part was Chubby had his umbrella up ( raining heavy ) and punched him with his left fist instead of his right but still put him on his arse. Chubby always stayed at the Hilton in Blackpool on the top floor suit at a cost of £400 a night and that was around 15 years back. He always says he ain't a millionaire but he was earning £50,000 a month in his hey day so he must be.

still find one of the most crazy or funny things i ever heard was back in the day of peter adamson the bloke who played len fairclough. at the time there was a prosecution on him for touching young lasses in the swimming pool. on hearing this a rochdale player of the time said, he cannot be guilty. he comes to our games. caused a mixture of laughter and head scratching i can tell you.

Len Fairclough was a bit before my time- though it has reminded me of an excellent spoof of 70's Corrie which is on You Tube. It's called Bugger nation Street and is absolutely hilarious.

I highly recommend it. Its basically old episodes of Corrie from the early 70's featuring the likes of Albert Tatlock, Ena Sharples, the Ogden's, and Bet Lynch (who is supposedly a Transexual!) that have been really well dubbed, with blue language, it's superb.

TV in the whole is crap and I resent paying the license fee. Quite often I’ll find nothing to watch and end up hunting on YouTube for music clips from the 70s and 80s, just to unwind.

spent the whole of tuesday on youtube and pools after 7.45. thats more or less the average day unless there is something on talking pictures. paying for a tv license is like buying a season ticket for a club you,ll never watch.

Similar for me, I like YouTube, short clips you can choose what you want to watch and listen to alternative opinions. I was in Hartlepool for a few weeks recently, I never watched any TV, nothing there to interest me, I also read a lot 4/5 books a month.

All of that lame BBC clique. The same group appear on every supposedly comedy quiz show.

add the ones who appear on so called celebrity editions on any programme. when it says that i know i have to find the remote control quickly after being either bored or irratated by them in the past.
