Exactly my thoughts! I honestly cant see a problem as long everything is done properly and not done as a 'bodge' job

H&S law in this country is such that it can't and won't be a "bodge job".

If it was up to me I'd line every single one of the protesters who've delayed this up against a wall and shoot the lot of them.

Sick of hearing councillors belly aching about the whole sorry saga....the same councillors who cant be arsed to turn up to an important meeting about said ships sctatchinghead

I must say though, i'd love to be allowed on board them, just to have a look round! ( The ships, not the councillors!)

I would too. I can see them from here, but they've put a bloody great pallisade fence up around the site.

I totally agree with the above. A possible 500 jobs for the area and people are complaining banghead With the amount of publicity this has had there is no way they can cut corners.

Mr Ripper get on with some work instead of looking out your window

Thats the thing. We live in a town with a power station, adjacent to smogland and people living here complain about toxins etc. If you were that bothered you would have moved to the friggin countryside

Can we afford to lose 500 jobs? Able UK appear to have bent over backwards but the lads from the Civic don't appear to have the spherical objects to make a decision. I think sometimes we take pc and saving the whale a bit too far. for goodness sake this is going to be a dry dock facility to dismantle ships, safely and get the lefties and greenpeace wallers are objecting. Sometimes I just wonder why we are paying councillors £6,000 a year.

Some of the concerns are justified, Able apparently have a terrible safety record and it is debatable whether they have the expertese to do the job depending on who you believe.

No one is going to die but I'm glad that I won't be one of the 500 taking the things apart for about 7 quid an hour.....

I agree with Johnny, I don't think its quite as cut and dried as everyone else is making out. Yes obviously the jobs will be welcome but there is a risk that if this is passed more and more stuff like this will come to Hartlepool. I guess if we're happy to be seen as the shit hole England and want to encourage even more of this stuff in the future then thats fine but I'm sure there must be better ways to improve the Hartlepool economy.

I am a bit baffled as to why ageing American warships need to be transported accross the seas to be dismantled in Hartlepool because its too unsafe or illegal to do so in America.

they've been sat docked up for how ever long now, rotting away wer they stand....they would have been dismantled by now if they was allowed in the first place this whole saga would never of gone on, able may have gone on to secure more dismantling jobs bringing money in to create more jobs for the people of the town

Another one who's taken too much notice of the scare mongering brigade but doesn't really know the facts.

The media calling them 'Ghost Ships' doesn't help either. Sounds like a case for Scooby Doo. Anyone know if 'Old Man Withers' works at the Civic Centre?

You hit the nail right on the head.
Mind, if they'd called them anything else it wouldn't have sold copy.

hartlepool has only been in the news this far down the country 3 times this year, there was the school crash, the guy arrested for pissing on the dead woman and the ghost ships,no just remembered there was also the girl whose kid died of methadone od. it doesn't paint the town a lovely rosy colour does it.
with different media handling the ship story could have been quite positive.

It's usually bad news: Arthur Hutchinson, Rosie Palmer, Drugs etc etc

The only decent national publicity the town has had recently was the H'Angus mayoral election and that was tongue in cheek as best.

Before getting paranoid, remember, bad news makes headlines much more easily than good!
Very few towns receive raving reports in the papers.

I never realised it was 13 years since that poor kid was murdered. July 1994. Judging by this it was fairly predictable that this guy would do something to a child.
