for football-related reasons it has to be Cyril Knowles. He didn't have to stake his reputation here, but he did, and in an almost impossible situation he saved the club from footballing oblivion. There would be no Pools today as we know it if we had gone down, I'm sure of that. He then eclipsed that achievement by giving us a team to be proud of for the first time in my life. Come on, who can ever forget the elation of that day in May,1991? Pools actually getting promoted!!!! Without him coming here, I'm certain not many of us would even be talking about HUFC, and this message board wouldn't exist. How many lifelong friendships have been forged through watching Pools? Most of us on here would never have got to know or meet each other at all.
If anybody ever wonders how a stand could be named after a manager who was only here for 18 months, he did more for this club in that time than anybody else did in its previous 85 years. He saved the club from obscurity, simple as that. RIP Sir Cyril , for me the greatest legend this club has ever had.
