very odd.in each corner of the ground is a block of flats, posh ones with balconies probably called apartments by the estate agents, the ground is open at each corner so 2 sides of each block of flats actually look out on to the pitch.their was 1 bloke sat out with his orient top on with a flag over the balcony but he kept disappearing maybe he couldn't bear to watch.then there was a woman with an everton top on busy cleaning the flat putting flowers out and such like but she never even glanced at the pitch, really bizarre.

We had the rubbish part of the ground, the wooden bit.

"One of the main outcomes of the inquiry was the banning of the construction of new wooden grandstands at UK sports grounds."

So since 1985 NEW wooden stands have been banned. Well Popplewell obviously didn't give a deadline for old wooden stands to be replaced.

when I think about it, Leyton Orient do very well just to continue as a pro league club in modern day London. How do you get modern generations of kids interested in them, when they are also living around the corner from Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, and to a lesser extent but still much larger clubs like West Ham, Charlton, and Fulham. Palace and QPR also have a lot of top-flight tradition, so people who turn out to follow Orient, Brentford and Barnet fair play to them. Orient have done well to redevelop the ground as they have by selling the land off for the apartments. Apparently the main stand will be next.

They were doing some rough fouls from behind all match especially that Thornton yet they felt hard done by.

Maybe I had my rose tinted glasses on but I felt the ref got bullied by them and the fans a tad and didn't give us an awful lot. I remember when I think McCunnie got fouled from behind and he gave them a free kick during the second half.

However their fans seem to feel hard done by the referee. But then again so did a few of our fans. sctatchinghead

What's the building behind the red seats on the right of that photo? Is there a roof above there? Very odd.

it's actually the back of the seated area. There's a balcony half way up it for directors etc, and all the sponsorship boxes run along the same level. Then at the very top there's a gantry for the press/cameras. It is the weirdest stand I've ever seen. There's a roof of sorts, but it will only shield the balcony, and I think you'd get very wet at the bottom of the seasts which make up the bulk of the stand if it rained.

spoke to a steward about them apartments he reckons the tenants/occupiers part own them and part rent them sctatchinghead also heard they sold the land for 12 million dunno if this was for all four corners where apartments stood or for each plot of land. it was a very odd set up like as far as football grounds went. sctatchinghead

Yes it is very strange indeed, however they've made their ground quite pleasent & much improved than over previous visits. What Parmo says is right, they've done very well to survive amongst the so called 'big boys'. West Ham is very close and Spurs & Arsenal not far away. The atmosphere is always good there & the supporters usually friendly and up for a laugh. There is serious talk of them moving to the Olympic stadium (London not China) after the 2012 games - they are the only club now considering this due to capacity and the need for it to be a community resource.
On my way to the Orient I was sad to see that Hackney Speedway (and greyhound) stadium has been demolished - spent many a happy evening watching speedway there - probably Olympics related I guess, as much of the area around there is being re-developed.
