read this on the mail web site and was very suprised with it being in our townand thopught it was a bit of a laugh, not that i am homophobic at all i just know that people in the town are a bit narrow minded so brilliant news.

'Gay games' for Hartlepool
HARTLEPOOL is to host its first ever gay Olympic Games.

The town will follow in the footsteps of Manchester's Pride Games by hosting The Gaymes next Saturday.

The event is being organised by Hart Gables, a support group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, based in South Road.

Around 100 people are expected to take part in the sports which include five-a-side football, basketball, rounders, and the long jump.

The Gaymes, being hailed as "the biggest gay sports day to have ever hit the North East", aims to promote healthy activities among the gay community.

It also hopes to encourage gay people who may be reluctant to take part in sports due to homophobia to participate, whatever their ability.

The Gaymes is a straight-friendly event which will also include aikido, healing workshops, acupuncture and Indian head massage therapies.

The event is the brainchild of Nikki Ward, a volunteer at Hart Gables.

She has been awarded a Community Champions grant by the Scarmans Trust to stage the sports day.

Nikki said: "I am really looking forward to seeing this day come together.

"It is such a rare event and I just hope people have as much fun on the day as I'm having organising it.

"Many LGBT people are discouraged from taking part in sports because they worry about homophobia - maybe they faced bullying at school or negative attitudes in sports clubs as adults.

"What we want to do with this sports day is to have a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where people can just get together to play sports and have fun.

''Everyone is welcome to attend - and even the most determined of unsporty people can come along - they can cheer their friends on."

The Gaymes take place from 10am to 4pm at the Brierton Community Sports Centre

Isnt it discriminatory that such an event exists?

Nothing stops gays taking part in 'traditional' competitions (look at the amount of dykes in tennis etc) therefore why the need for a seperate event sctatchinghead

It seems a bit queer to me confised

I think they're actually saying that the games are going to be really colourful and amusing.
Er, that's what 'gay' means isn't it? Have I missed something? :uhoh:

another load of politically correct bollocks. It's attention-seeking shite, that's what it is.
Why don't they just have a rally or a meeting?

I couldn't care less if they spend plenty cash!!!
It makes no difference what people are, it's the jumping up and down, waving arms-look-at-me attention seeking I can't stand. Them who "shout loudest and longest getting their way" syndrome if you ask me
