Budtz - made lots of good stops, still not sure about his ability to deal with crosses or communicate with the defence
McCunnie - possibly our best player, knocked several excellent through balls over the top
Nelson - it's a long time since he's played like that, at fault for the second goal
Antwi - doesn't look to be moving properly, out of position a lot, distribution sometimes poor, I would say give him a rest and let Clark step up
Humphreys - solid at left back, but looked a bit off the pace when moved into central midfield, some of his passing was poor
Robson - another good game from Matty, played well at left back after getting forward well earlier
Liddle - solid performance but another who normally passes better
Boland - great until he he had to be replaced
Brown - not one of his better games, looked knackered in the second half
Barker - tireless running and getting kicked/elbowed all over as usual
Moore - lots of effort, appeared to take his goal well, but seems to play on his own - I still think Joel should start ahead of him
Foley - as usual was full of tricks and pace, but possibly a bit too predictable for the Wednesday defence - there were several times he showed a bit too much of the ball
Joel - made another good case for why he should start, but made a pigs ear of a great chance late on
Monkhouse - didn't look fully fit to me, although it will be great to have him back

Peculiar substitution when Boland had to come off - I would have thought a straight swap with Ben Clark? 'Experimental' cup game ideas from Wilson maybe?

Agree with most of that, especially the substitution.
Could see the logic in switching Matty to left back, because I thought Ritchie was struggling against there speedy winger and Matty was doing very little going forward, but why not put Joel on instead of Foley ???
Two lessons there, the bench was wrong, Sweeney should have been there (but I fear if he had it would have been Joel who missed out).

My first game this season and on the showing, my pre season fear is correct, DW might have strengthened the squad but there is no added quality.
Antwi, was very disappointing, looked just what he is, a player from another club (i.e no allegiance) learning his trade at our expense, no better than Ben Clark, on last nights showing.
Moore, another Proctor, chases a lot of lost causes but does little when he gets the ball.
Also does not play off, Barker (who was again immense last night).
Joel is a far superior player than Moore.
The one plus from the new boys, was McCunnie, who looks a very steady composed player.

My fear is that DW, will stick by his new boys, as he has done with Gibb and come the January transfer window
Porter and Clark will be handing in transfer requests.

One other thing that was proved last night, was night Foley is an short term 'impact' player.
Coming off the bench late on, he can cause big problems. Last night he did that for his first 15-20 minutes,
but then was 'sussed' by the defenders and became ineffectual.

Finally, the winning goal was unfortunately echo's of Cardiff, Nelse losing the ball as he tried to break forward,
a quick break and a goal. Mind to be fair to Nelse, he recovered his ground, to the extent that he deflected the cross
onto their attacker and past Budtz.

More later, must do some work.

One thing I can say about last night, we are seriously lacking a quality striker.

Wednesday were a very poor side and their defence couldn't cope with young Brownie (why did wilson take him off) anyway as soon as brown went off i felt we lost all our attacking moves.

Bad move bringing Foley on so early, he was easy pickings for their big defenders and seemed lost most of the game.

Nelson was class as was McCunnie, Humphs was all over and had a good game, Antwi out of sorts, Budz a bit flappy again but pulled off some great stops, Robson poor distribution but tireless, Moore a lot of running, good finish for the goal but not much else, barker, hold up play good but still never looks like scoring, Liddle seemed quiet but seemed to be doing a lot of defensive work so didnt get forward much.

Another chance missed for a good cup run, why do we always blow it banghead

He took Brown off because he is completely useless in second halves. The other team either double mark him or he aint fit to run for 90 minutes. I know he scored last week but he goes missing as soon as we enter the 46th minute.

Brown is absolute quality, end of. If we had 10 other players with as much skill and effort we'd be in the championship!

Sorry, but now I've finished laughing I'd like to ask,

Would you play James Brown at centre half?

Do you think he is a good goalkeeper (although he may well be better than Oh Budtz) ?

Thank you Mr Bus, on terms of value, would Mr Ripper consider Brown to be our most valuable asset

Possibly.

Although an under contract Micky Nelson would be a contender, and a fully fit and regularly starting Joel Porter too.

I'm not overly happy about it either.

But we played well.

Hopefully they'll get drawn away at Morecambe or Luton in the next round.

What team would you have started with?

And in hindsight would that be different to the one that you'd have picked this time yesterday?

He's definitely a contender.

Brilliant again last night.

Joel and Monky in instead of Matty and Moore.

We'd have won yesterday if we'd started with Joel.

Joel for Moore

Sweeney on the bench, instead of who, is the big question, personally Moore,
but I don't think DW, sees Moore in the same light as most of us do.

I'd also have been tempted to start Monkhouse, and I think the way Matty started he was
thinking it was only a matter of time before he got the hook.

He was. Without being at his best.

He did one bit of skill in the first half that was sublime, on the edge of the Sheff Wed box. It resulted in nothing though I think, but remember thinking 'if Joel had been running onto that....'

Beforehand I'd have had Barrett in for Budtz, Elliott in for Humphreys, Clark in for Antwi and Porter in for Moore. No other changes from what DW played.

In hindsight I'd have made the same changes except Porter would have been in for Barker who I thought was very ineffective last night.

Sorry, can't have that, Barker worked his bollox off, at both ends of the field.
What he needs is someone to work with him (someone called Joel Porter)
He must be close to being first name on the teamsheet.

There is no doubt in my mind that I'd start with Barker and Porter on Saturday.

Just last night I thought that, despite his effort and workrate which cannot be faulted in any way, he was out of his depth.

Sweeney would have been an ideal replacement for Bolland when he went off, but, unfortunately he didn't even make the bench sctatchinghead

I'd have brought on clark for bolland, humphs left back, matty left mid, replaced matty with monk late second half if was still 1-1, replaced moore with porter and foley of for barker if it had went to extra time.

But what do I know
