If you've committed acts of terror against innocent women and children leaving them dead or dying in the street.

Yes, the hero of the pinky lefties and bearer of a hundred worthless honary degrees has planted bombs in the Wimpy Bars of South Africa which killed lots of people. Why oh why is this guy idolised?

Now I'd like to know what the heck did mandela do that was so great after he was let out of the cell where he was supposed to rot? He came out, amidst a huge pretentious fanfare, was given a country on a silver platter thanks to the biggest traitor ever in south africa, fw de klerk, and after that mandela did what? He rode the wave of the happy-clappy feel-good PC fools, wore stupid shirts and started a fund for milking the international pc community. I would have been so happy if mandela's culture prohibited divorce, so that he would have had to stay married to that nutcase winnie forever, that way mandela's hell that awaits him would have started while he is still alive.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't he used to put oil-filled tyres over people and set them on fire?

If any black South African should be idolised around the world for their fight for freedom it should be Steve Biko

That was Winnie! Tyres filled with petrol placed around peoples necks and set on fire.

There was plenty of it before that John, particularly in the sixties when 'The Spear' was in its infancy.

I like Nelson Mandela, hardly the same to compare him to Bin Laden.

As someone who has lived in Suid Afrika During and after the apartheid regime, I must agree with Mr I. The worst thing that the South African government ever did was to incarcerate instead of incinerate Mr Mandela and all of his cronies.
Necklacing "tyres around the neck" was rife in the Townships to ensure that strikes and boycotts were adhered to - this is black on black.
Winnie Mandela - was released and cleared of murder despite an enormous amount of overwhelming evidence, because she was the leader of the ANC womens group, and even Des Tutu in the truth and reconciliation hearings requested Winnie to apologise for her crimes (Stompie)
If you want to honour a black South African what about Buthelezi the leader of the Zulus.

I suppose it's OK for the police to shoot demonstrators then?

Hardly fair that the ethnic underclass should actually fight back is it?

Ain't that the truth.

But few people would argue against fighting back against aparteid.

spot on saigon if you resist oppression you become a terrorist
if you randomly shoot people you become the oppressor

because he stood up against aparteid he becomes a criminal

he did his time for the so called crimes and comes out on top
and in my opinion rightly so but i am probably classed as a pinky lefty because i dont conform

For the majority of South Africans nothing has changed infact it has probably got worse
So much for equality, don't forget that the ANC is communist so some people are more equall than others.
Same rules different colour

Zimbabwe.

Another shining example of 'freedom from oppression.'

You can't just throw them a country because they want it and expect everything to be hunky dory. They aren't up to governing it. There are examples spread ALL across the African continent. Then when they're all on the run from the 'freedom fighters,' who promptly turn their European supplied weapons on the populace, starving in their millions and in refugee camps where do they put their hand out??

Yep to the West where with much hand wringing and pleas to the social conscience and photographs of skinny kids with flies on their faces we throw them another few billions in aid money, which is diverted into the 'freedom fighters' hands, shoot some film of a comedian near a new well babbling about sustainable development, and then off we go again.

We can't win. We should give them the keys and fook.off home, changing our phone number the very next day.

Well it is THEIR country, and THEM messing it up if they happen to be. Better than SOMEONE ELSE messing it up isn't it?

Maybe we should put the headland Andy Capp statue next mandala;s because they are both a waste of money in my eyes.
