So Oldham are set to unveil Lee Hughes next week after he has been paroled having served just three years for killing two people and driving off http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6955083.stm

The news made me wonder what the terms of his parole are. If he is sent off for violent conduct or any club report him to the police for assault on any of their players surely he would have to be returned to jail to serve the rest of his rediculously short sentence. How can he return to being a professional footballer? Have any other players turned out whilst on parole? He is gonna get some stick!

The bloke committed a crime was convicted and sentenced. He's done his time, let him get on with his life FFS! I'm sure nobody regrets what happened more than he does.

Aye he regretted so much he drove off the prick, you can say he's done his time, he did get 6 years and is getting out after 3. Two people died, anothers life has been practically ruined by his actions yet he gets ANOTHER chance to make ridiculous amounts of money playing footy.
Don't understand how anyone can defend him and I hope Oldham go down for giving him that chance.
He'll be driving around in a £100,000 sports car within weeks no doubt.

I'm not disputing what he did but the root cause was that he was driving too fast in an inappropriate area. Before evryone gets all holier than thou, hands up is you can honestly state that you've never done that? Yes two people died which is tragic but it was not murder. It was not premeditated or planned. It was a tragic consequence of someone driving too fast, this could have happened to anyone. What is less defensiable is that he then drove off and for that mainly he got the six years.

Yes he only did three out of six years and if you have issues with that then take it up with the lawmakers. The judge knew full well that he'd be out in three when he sentenced him so after listening to all of the factors in detail the judge made that decision. They usually get these things right.

As for him playing football again, so what? its his trade. If he were an electrician would you be complaining that he has the opportunity to rewire a house again? Also I don't think Oldham pay Chelsea levels of wages and at 31 he ain't going to rise to the premiership.

I'm not defending him, I'm saying that he did wrong - unintentionally, and paid the price. That bill has been settled and he now has the right to get on with his life.

Incidentally; that folk hero of Hartlepool, Bob Newton was guilty of exactly the same crime and I don't remember too many boos when he played for Pools after getting out of the nick. Time served you see.

edit: I just noticed someone over on rivals used the same example of a sparkie. A coincidence.

If you honestly feel that strongly about Hughes, then I hope you say the same about Newton.

That's not the point though is it Dibbler me old mucker.

We stand on the terrace and abuse them for two reasons- 1 to put them off their game and 2 for shits and giggles.

If we weren't allowed to be hypocritical then how come PK used to call some opposition players "chicken fkers"?
