I know the answer is probably not, but does anyone ever think that our club is jinxed?

Since starting to support Pools in 88/89 it just seems that every time there is a 'big game' we just dont seem to get the rub of the green. I know people say that you make your own luck and all that, maybe im just being cynical and feeling down after yesterday but there seems to be so many times that we get harshly done by.

Often down to incompetent referees such as yesterday, the play-off final etc.
Often we are just plain unlucky - this seems to happen in our play-off games more often than not where we are denied blatent penalties and dubious ones are awarded against us.
We rarely seem to get any good fortune ( the palace game is the only one that sticks in my mind). When was the last time we were given a soft penalty or awarded a goal when the ball had'nt even crossed the line? Opposition players dont seem to get sent-off for minor offences but ours do.
I think it was the Swindon game in the play-offs when we ended up getting four or five injured players and finished with our players playing in the wrong positions, we of course wnt on to get beat thanks to late goals.
We lost the title last season by 1 solitary point ffs right at the death.

It just seems sometimes that some fooker 'up there' doesnt like us very much. banghead

*Sits there feeling sorry for himself and breaks down in tears *

sorry to sound like an old bastad grave but if you think we've been jinxed since the late 80's you should have seen us in the 70's
we tend to only remember the bad decisions against us and forget the others, last minute pen at home to lincoln for example last season.

But was that not just a case of us being crap in the 70's rather than just bad luck?

I know what you mean Grave,it does feel as though every ref we get turns out to be crap.Im still not 100% convinced that McKay was offside against Bristol Rovers but we are a lower league team & are stuck with lower league referees, thats life & we gotta live with it.

But naff refs should give key decisions for us as often as against us surely. What bugs me is the fact that in the key games the major refereeing decisions always seem to go the other way. It sometimes feels like Hartlepool will always be 'unlucky'.

How many cast iron penalties did we get denied last season for example, yet how many dubious ones get given against us.

Naw. When we lose big games its because we haven't scored enough goals. Yes refereeing decisions do turn games but not as much as our forward line misfiring. Yesterday we should have scored two or three goals but they were blazed over blasted wide or just plain missed.

it was bristol city in the play offs that you are thinking of,by the way.
it's not a jinx, it's overall just not being quite good enough at key times

It's all Jeff Stellings fault.

Yesterday he had just made some remark, taking the mickey out of someone, and we conceded the first goal. He said something like, the 'man upstairs' has punished me for my remark, after the goal had come up on the screen.

I do believe that crap decisions probably even themselves out over the season,it just seems that we are hard done to coz when a crap decision goes our way we dont see it as crap.
I bet if you go around the bottom divisions all fans will think their team gets the rough end of the refs cock ups.
