hmmm. I can forsee a "not sitting still" tax in future. Movement detectors will be in place in the home and each person will have a transmitter compulsorily attatched to them. That way, the Govt can tax you every time you make a move!!
1p for visits to the bathroom, 10p if you walk to the shops, etc!! sctatchinghead

If the story is true it seems to pave the way to hammer people who like beef, milk or other cattle produce.

And also gives credence to those who think the tenner 'environment' tax on flights is a piss-take.

That's all well and good but when I went to Sunderland yesterday in my mates new motor it was running on cooking oil, it took less than 10ltrs to do the round trip at a cost of just under £5.00.
Was this a green option or would it be better if he used diesel, walk or get the train?.

I think the VAT is built into the price at Tesco Kev, he did get some strange looks pouring them in his fuel tank in the car park.

You don't pay VAT on food do you?

I'm going to email the Government to tell them they ought to put it on vegetable oil.

'Fraid you do. Everything except kids clothes and newspapers. It used to be just hot food but that was clearly ridiculous 'cos you could just serve it cold and provide a microwave.

Where I work we manufacture drinks and because two of the flavours are tea based they are classified as 'food' and they are not registered for VAT.

I'm not denying that. All I'm saying is that's the reason we got from Customs & Excise.

here's another con,but manipulated by brewers/manufacturers of alcoholic drinks. The brewers/drinks manufacturers pay a levy to HM Customs & Excise based on the amount of alcohol in the product. Last year, over half a dozen bottled alcoholic drinks which we sell at the pub were 0.5% to 1% stronger than they are now.
Has the price fallen to me, and thus to the customer?
Not at all!!
It's not always the Revenue ripping people off, it's also the sly tactics of manufacturers/suppliers trying to increase their profits.

Also, in a bottle of alcohol the actual % could be anywhere between 0.01% above and up to 10% of the drink below what it actually says on the label.
So, for example, if a label says 4.5% alcohol, then it really could be anywhere between 3.95% and 4.51%.
Nothing ever leaves our factory at the correct %, it's always under, but still legal.

It's very true. I went and checked the actual figures with QC before I posted it.
