more help needed

I want to change my avator but the pic i have is to big how can i make it smaller and why do other peoples seem to be lot bigger than the 1 i want to use yet all i get is it has to be 160 pixels by 160 pixels thanks for any help and i still cant put a picture in the picture association thread.kajira
