I was thinking what is VAR?

My best guess is 'varied acceleration rate' which sounds good to me. If everybody just jogs at the same speed for 90 minutes the Germans will win easily whereas trickily varying speeds and the VAR used to reach them will make their lives much more difficult.

Is it tonight for some reason I thought it was tomorrow.

The amount of pull outs is pretty soul destroying even more so when he’s picking Jake Livermore as a replacement.

The reason we end up in tougher groups at the tournaments is because we only seem to play friendlies against top nations these days with half a team in invariably lose which has a baring on our World ranking.

It's tomorrow im just starting the thread early to kick off some debate, and to try and help you from reading joke threads you hate.

I had this discussion with my friends and we all agreed its bonkers that we play such difficult friendlies, the only reason i can see for doing this is to sell out wembley and make money.

The midfield is pathetic. Dier, Livermore, Loftus-Cheek, Cork

It's a very small talent pool he has to pick from.

I thought he might have had a look at wilshire.

Wilshere, Shelvey anyone who tries to get on the ball and play if you don’t fancy those go for the next best youngster. We’ve seen Livermore in an England shirt and he’s limited I don’t see the benefit of calling him into the squad.

Shelvey would certainly be an attacking choice. He's definitely an entertaining player. There is, of course, always the risk that he'll set an opposing player up for a simple finish at least once.

Or get sent off!

Southgate must be aware of the perception of this England team though and people moaning about how bad the games have been it’s a friendly why pick a limited holding backwards and sideways merchant who should been never seen again in an England shirt after that Scotland shambles. Shelvey is a miles better footballer than Livermore, far less safe which is Southgate all over.

Lord love a duck. Did the FA learn nothing from the European Championships?

Small countries that have already qualified for the World Cup and know they'll be in the third or fourth round of teams drawn must have the prayer mats out hoping they're in England's group.

It's never too late to thank Southgate for his services, pay him off and get someone like Ancelotti in for the Finals.

I feel it would be cheating to appoint Ancelotti. Or any other foreign manager for that matter.

If international football is worth persevering with, and I do sometimes genuinely wonder whether it is (at senior level anyway), then it needs to be a principled alternative to club football.

This one doesn’t as the rankings are set now but all of the previous friendlies we’ve played over the last few years have. England will be in third pot in the World Cup draw so it’s does make you think what the FA are actually motivated by since the new Wembley was built. If I had my way these two friendlies would be at home to The Cook Islands and Qatar away. It’s all about World ranking and the World Cup in 2022 is going to be at this time of year here. The second friendly has little to do with National Stadium being closer than Vic is to our house at home. Mind in four years time it will be just used for the semi final as it only holds about 50,000.

Correct sir, our choice is friendlies is contributing to our poor seeding in the tournaments. But as chip has alluded too, its too sell tickets, pay for wembley, sell merch, sell shirts, they dont actually care if england perform well at a tournament, as long as people keep turning up n mams n dads keep getting fleeced n buying shirts then the FA wont care.

On another topic i was quiet shocked to read today that danny drinkwater has committed international football suicide by rejecting a call up to the squad for tonights game. Turning up a call up in a world cup year, he must be insane.

I can see that side of things, he got a knock last weekend against man united and he's being 'monitored' by chelsea.

But as a fringe player, in a world cup year, germany at wembley, i'd walk to bloody london, i'd turn up n i'd get myself as fit as i could so that i could be either considered for this game, or looked at for the next one, if he's not fully fit and doesnt make it, then fair do's, but you've showed a first class attitude.

I can only assume its not that important to him.

I'd hazard a bet he'll be in the chelsea squad for their next game.

He's a canny midfielder, nowt flash, if he's lucky he'll get 2-3 years on the fringes of the chelsea team, if thats more important to him than england, then it's probably a good thing he didnt come.

Yep nail on the head there. They aren't bothered about England. It's more of an inconvenience to the likes of Drinkwater and the other 10 or so who have dropped out. It should be the absolute pinnacle of their career to represent England. Sadly not, though. I'd never pick him (and the others) again personally

I've always like you PJ.

Bagsies on the guest bedroom for 2022.? There'll only be the four of us and we're not fussy eaters.

He's renting it out to 16 migrants who are building the stadium for the final.

If Hart was in goal we’d be at least 2-0 down.

A year or two ago, people were debating whether Hart was England's best keeper. I reckon at the moment he is one of the worst keepers in the Premier , never mind England No 1, granted not many of Premier keepers are English like.

England and Germany play a friendly pretty much every season now, and the England's record against them in those games is decent.

It's not tournament football though is it?
