We are going camping at the weekend with the bairns and some friends and their bairns over Bridlington way. We must win the award for most ill prepared campers ever, will turn up to find tent up (using friends tent) and have 2 decent sleeping bags and two crisp packet quality ones and that is it. No equipment of any sort ever and bad parents debating whether the kids will be warm enough in the crisp packets.

That £2.99 story makes me guilty we haven't even got a tent or two never mind the fact we don't even have enough sleeping bags for the whole family :uhoh:

When you tell a woman you've got a new car, the first question is always the same.

'What colour is it??'

Whatever you do, get something to lay on. you can get the foam mats in Tescos cheap. An airbed is even better.

I speak from painful experience! sadx

I went camping over at Ullswater last weekend, DEAD quiet! I think the recent bad weather has put people off, we had the pick-of-the-field when we turned up last Friday dinnertime. The villages were quiet, the pubs easy to get served in (is there a better beer than Jennings Snecklifter??) and not many cars about. I've seen it busier in March!

Mind, I wouldn't sleep in a £2.99 Tesco tent, like...

Jennings Snecklifter on tap?
Thats definitely one of the best beers if not the best...beautiful stuff
I went to a posh wedding in Norfolk last weekend where people camped in the garden. They had a whole pig turning round and roasting and Greene King IPA on tap for free. That was great. If it was Snecklifter instead of IPA it would have been heavenly

I spent a couple of years in East Anglia in the 70's, the only thing that made it bearable was Green King Abbot Ale.

Phil, the reason it was so quiet was that the world and his wife (and bairn in my case) were at Grange Over Sands for the Cumbria Steam Fair. There's nothing quite like the expression on a two year old's face when he sees a great big Traction Engine trundling into the arena! Mind, it was so busy that the queue to get in the car park was moving slower than said traction engine and it was back to Grange shortly after we arrived I think.....

Cheap domes aren't meant for sleeping in, they're meant to lie in while listening to the thudding beat of the dance tent at whichever festival. Essentially they've made them disposable - cost less than a tenner, not worth taking home. The likes of Oxfam now go round the big festivals and collect the ones that just get left and ship them out to disaster areas, except for the ones that the owners decide to torch that is.

That explains why Wasdale was so quiet. We did Scafel Pike and Great Gable in the day.

Talking of Argos and camping gear, apparently Argos have this unconditional returns policy, so a few of the lads who do Glastonbury go and get a big load of the better gear from Argos, tent, airbed, sleeping bag, use it for the week and then take it back and get their money back.
