You can get the whole lot on Youtube. Over the last two days I've watched Yossers Story in seven parts.

I seemed to remember it was a bit of a black comedy but there wasn't anything remotely funny in it at all apart from when the copper says to him 'Don't but me!!!....' and when his daughter nuts the social worker. The rest of it's totally depressing.

So I started on Auf Wiedersehen Pet instead!!

Was just thinking the other day it never gets repeated and I have never seen it as video or DVD. Have to start looking.
Yes it was a bleak tale of the times, but classic moments.........Not funny? Where Yosser is confessing to the Priest who is called Daniel.............'I'm Desperate Dan'......cue banging of forehead on table.....absolute classic line rolfl rolfl rolfl

To those who despise Maggie take an unbiased look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_of_Discontent

It's an accurate portrayal of the disaster she inherited when she won her first election:

Strikes were endemic. 27% inflation. the UK borrowing billions from the world bank. The country was literally on its knees and something had to be done.

whether the socialists agree with it or not, the Tories were the only party to stop the disruption the unions were causing back then. They had overstepped the mark, and basically hung themselves. The unions could still have been a major force in politics today, had they been more moderate in their demands.
Today's Labour is more like a wet Tory party, I don't see it as a traditional Labour party any more.

Anyone remember a one off drama out about the same time called One summer. A couple of young scousers called Billy and Icky who ran away from home to live in the welsh countryside.

Very funny but a very sad ending when Icky pinched a car and killed himself sadx

Sadly the current mob are no better. Their latest success story is the cancellation of this year's Mathew Street Festival - apparently the biggest free music festival in Europe - on H&S grounds, just under three weeks before it was due to take place. The problem they say is that with the Pier Head and half of the roads unavailable (due to the City of Culture stuff it seems that they're digging up the whole city centre and a third of the outlying areas too) they can't accomodate all the people expected to come along. Now, cancelling it is one thing, but they've done it due to works that have been going on for months and have been planned longer, with three weeks to go.

Who runs the council these days? Those cuddly Lib Dems......
