I found this useful website which lists alternative numbers to the '0870/0871' rip off lines. Just in case you aren't aware they typically charge anywhere up to 20p a minute for these lines.

This website lists the alternative whether it be an 0800 number or a geographical number such as 01429 etc.

I used to use it but I found half the time you would get through to the wrong department or the company is wise to the website and stopped the number that they recommend.
