I haven't had any problems with my NTL/VirginMedia connection. This speedtest shows the 2K I'm supposed to be on, is a little down at the moment at 1811, last time I tested it, it was 1972.

Yeah, Thats correct everyone is lowered to 'Accomodate major useage' Mind you mine drops even less than that!
I'm supposed to be on the 10MB but only ever came across the speed it produces after midnight, No good at all
Looking at other options

Broadband in Billingham in 1972, fantastic. Years before I could get it. Always been with freeserve > wanadoo > orange. Name changed but service always ok. Cos I'm a country bumpkin though 2 meg is the max in our exchange which is a downer. Family members complain about NTL and swear by Sky!

Orange has been terrible for me since it took over from Wanadoo.

Frequently cutting me off, lots of downtime etc.

Mine is...2753...paying for up to 8mb but my area can only get 6. sctatchinghead

ntl pished me off so argued with them as unhappt with the world's most unreadable bills and told them to put me on their basic basic packages

so now getting billed for 2M but still getting 4M -baffoons

arse and elbow springs to mind

my connection is a solid as a rock and never drops

broadband is a but dodgy but overall it aint too bad

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but when our NTL/Virgin Media cable TV box fires up it comes up with the three letter slogan 'nlt' ! What chance have you got with a company who can't even get its own name right - and theres only three fu~*!ng letters in it!!!

I was on freeserve/wannado/orange and never experienced any downtime, but it was dog slow.

However a couple of weeks ago I switched to Sky, which is free because we have premium packages, speed has tripled and not a single problem so far.

clappp

We're on Sky too. It works. And it's free. I dunno anything more technical than that.

But when we were on NTL at the old place it didn't work and they expected to be paid for it.

Last year, I was paying £25 per month, for the 4Meg NTL service.
I rang them up to cancel, as I was going to transfer to Sky, after a bit of 'negotiation'
they agreed to drop their price to £10, for a 6 month period.
In May (after the 6 months), the they had now become Virgin Media, but agreed to continue the service at £10.

On checking a recent bill, I noticed that they had dropped me from 4Meg to 2 Meg, and on enquiring
discovered this is their new pricing structure (£10 => 2Mb, £18 => 4Mb, ???)
The best I can get in my area is 4Mb, so I'm not to stressed at the moment, but I reckon when I get
my e-mail addresses sorted out, I will be off to Sky

Must add, I've had pretty reliable service from NTL (2 new modems and reasonable telephone support)
