Sorry Mr ECG but I disagree with the SW/Devon thing, take it from me that fish & chips in the SW come complete with the skin left on the fish and it turns my gut. Last time I bought them in Weymouth the price was £5 for a fish & £1.50 for chips unless you want a cone of about 10 chips for a quid.

My best guess for them chips is Wales/Bristol/Avon area.

No, mate. Not fish and chips as you know them anyway.

In a restaurant you point at the fish you want in a tank and they bring it to your table live. You give the thumbs down and they murder it and cook it to order. You can specify fried in batter and filletted if you want. They don't really do chips here, although they will if you explain what you want.

You could get four portions for six pound though with drinks and outboards.

Don't think I could survive over there, Kev, on the basis of what you've said about the cuisine, unless I ate only rice and noodles. I have a nervous disposition

He hasn't told us what the average wage is, though, has he. Six quid is a lot of money if you're only on 25 pounds a year

I was on an island in the far east before and we has a bbq. Theire idea of a bbq was putting the stuff, fish, crabs etc, on the bbq as it was. Heads and all.

Simple honest food, but delicious.

25 quid a year?? Noooo!!!! There's a minimum wage here as well and its about 5 grand a year. If you chuck in all the subsistence farmers it comes well down which is what the journo's like to do.

But that's my point. £6 is a lot if you're a subsistence farmer.

But subsistence farmers don't come into the cities to the restaurants and don't live on money, they live on what they grow, and the farming subsidies that the Government give them which are modest.

But the press like to include the subsidies in the averages and water down the average wage thus, so everyone looks poor.
