All the big men moved into tabs about six or seven years ago, because the profits were better and the penalties were less. You couldn't buy owt anywhere in England, no-one was interested.

Sure enough, along comes HMRC, because they were losing a few quid in tax (there's obviously no tax on drugs) and stamps the whole thing out in minutes.

Now you may regard me as cynical, but if they can detect tabs at a five mile range, why can't they do the same with a big stinking container of smack?? I mean call the taliban what you want but they sorted the poppy problem in Afghanistan, producer of 70% of the worlds smack. Again along comes Mr Bush, the self styled Richard The Lionheart of modern times, deposes the taliban, and who does he put in charge??

I like the Far East attitude to drugs. It says in the airports, all over the walls, 'THE PENALTY FOR IMPORTING DRUGS IS DEATH' in English and the local parlance and if they catch you at it they kill you. No room for confusion there is there??

Particularly funny is the fact that a good few, maybe 20, Pakistani, Iranian and Iraqi drug mules have been caught at Shanghai Airport recently, they had some romantic notion that they'd find the Chinese a soft touch and Shanghai is now a major International Hub. The Chinese have machines and dogs that can detect if you've been swallowing condoms full of nasties and merely arrest you and wait for nature to take it's course. Cleeny poo-poo, catchee planee, no probrem. Shit or get off the pot.

As always, things start off with a bit of fun...............I remember my first tab!!!! Absolutely hated it 'cos it made me feel sick. Never touched one since.
Drink...................well, If there was a lable on the glass that said drinking can damage your health..hmmmmmm.

they're on about raising alcohol taxes again!! They never learn - see Pooly Kev's post re contraband tobacco driving the dealers into worse areas of activity (i.e. narcotics) - history teaches us lots of things and one of those is that if you make it too expensive, they'll drive it underground and make it even worse for everyone!! So we could now end up with an underground drink AND drugs problem!!!
Drinking dens are nothing new, there were plenty during prohibition in the US, not to mention our own gin drinking problem in London and that was 400 years ago!!! They soon realised that getting things out in the open was a far better option, and trying to eradicate the problem or taxing it to death has the opposite effect!!!
Binge drinking is largely because of supermarkets selling drink at ridiculously low prices, kids get plastered on this before they even go out, and then the pubs get the blame!!!! Hit the supermarkets with enforced price rises, but still affordable to the public, and we may get somewhere!!!
PS I wouldn't advocate legalising chemically and biologically addictive narcotics, but legalising certain things such as cannabis would not hurt anybody.
