He's been the most consistent Premiership defender for a number of years, he's behind Ferdinand and Terry in the pecking order fair enough, but when one of them is missing he should be playing, not Ledley King who is a decent player but not even close to being as good a defender. Carragher has played centre back for a team who have reached the Champions League final two years out of three remember.

Saying that though, I reckon making yourself unavailable to represent your country* is at best very arrogant and at worst tantamount to treason, take him to the tower

*Even when that Fuckwit Mclaren is in charge.....

this is the reason I have no feelings towards the England national side anymore. It's full of w***ers who don't know they are born. People like Alan Ball, Billy Wright, Stan Matthews, Bobby Moore etc will be turning in their graves, listening to c**nts like Scholes and Carragher saying they can't play for England any more. You would have had to break the legs of past players to stop them playing for England. Players like Shilton playing for England aged almost 40!! Terry Butcher playing with his head split open - and Paul Ince!!!!!
We all know for a fact who has made these decisions for them - if they can't or won't play for their country when picked, then FIFA must ban them from playing indefinitely for their clubs. And international bosses should be able to hold any player to that - no matter who the fuc-ker is, or their paymasters.
Another way of looking at it is this - it is ironic justice that it is the greedy Premier League governing body the FA, who may suffer financially through these so-called "top" players not playing in any England games.

They can't have it all ways

If I was England manager, I wouldn't pick any Premiership players. I'm sure you could field a decent national side made up of Championship players, of maybe lower, who would go out and 'die' for their country, and probably come back with better results than the pack of primadonnas that currently 'represent' our country.

Hear hear Mr BP. clappp clappp clappp

It doesn't matter enough to the Premiership players except they get a big boost to their 'image rights.'

I agree that any lazy arrogant get who refuses to play for England should be strung up.

I also find it funny when people, especially blinkered mag bastads, complain about the likes of Scholes but conveniently forget about Shearer "retiring" from international footie.

Two faced black and white wankas.

Love him or hate him, if every player had the same attitude as David Beckham, we might actually live up to our potential.

He sounded to me as though he was feeling sorry for himself.... He rose without trace and his departure will no doubt be equally as banal..... worst of all was the scousers phoning in saying nobody in the 'north' cares about the England team and don't feel English...looks like they've got a dose of the 'Manuitis syndrome'
