Obviously not seen them much, but was wondering if anybody watched much reserves last season, and seen the boys in action and whether they think they're are potentially first choice strikers given a season or so?

at this level, no and no if im being completely honest. the only proven striker we have at this level is porter if he stays fit, which is a big if.

new signings please mr wilson.

But Porter's shit apparantly and has no committment according or so I keep hearing...(which of course he isn't).

Back to the original question...

I'll start with Rea, if I was Wilson I'd send him on loan to a League 2 team for a year to give him experience. He has no experience and will not be ready in a years time without experience.

Mackay, a tough one. He is even more raw than Rea but at least he's played a few more games than Rea has, although it in a low league. He took time to settle down for the reserves from what I saw...but eventually looked alright.

Anyhow, it's all IFs. I don't have a crystal ball, I'm not expert, I have no idea whether they'll be ready to be our first choice strikers in a years time but I doubt. Maybe our 4th and 5th choice strikers in a years time but certainly not our first choice.

Tough call on Boyd isn't it??

Obviously he CAN do it, 'cos we've seen it. I can't see the squad letting him get above himself and him and Brown in the same team would be fantastic. He's had a year at a good level even if he was a fringe player and hopefully he's matured a bit. He'd get lots of attention from defenders leaving Porter free to notch a few again like last time. It'd be nice business to have 'loaned him out' for a year and skied half a mil for doing so. He desperately needs to kick start his career to use a horrible footy cliche. I'm talking myself into this so lets have a look at the downsides.

If he's not in the mood he's luggage. How much did the knee op take out of him in terms of pace and mobility?? What sort of shit would he have to eat from the boo boys coming back to Hartlepool?? Would he even want to?? Would he come down a division again?? Could him and Joel recreate the old magic?? If he's one on one with the Yeovil goalkeeper, what will he do??

At the money I'd say do it, we all know he's better than reserve ability in this division.

Over to you Messrs Boyd and Wilson.

Kev, he wouldn't be coming down a division (our first match is against Luton). To add to the debate, I'd reckon his knee op and following complications would have knocked his confidence and unfortunately his ability. Having said that I'd still like to see him back, but then it's not my £150k (or however much his fee is).

Yeah, good point well put. I was more thinking about last season. :uhoh: :uhoh: Or if there was offers from the Championship. Maybe I should have said would he want to go back to square one?? Maybe I should stop talking shite. :uhoh:

I suppose seeing as we got a sizeable chunk for him, his fee and his wages for a two year contract would be 'for free' notionally.

Anyway it's all conjecture until it happens, no news on who he IS talking to I suppose??
