Got to be John Borthwick surely. He was beyond compare as a terrible player.

Scott Walker?

Jason Danskin?

Adie Mike?

Roy Tunks?

Each of those makes Borthwick look like Ronaldo.

Shame he wasn't playing for Pools as a junior then. Whenever I seen him he was truly awful.

SO you seriously think that Robson is worse than some of the dross that we had to endure through the bad times of the 90s? stpid

By the way, I can immediately think of THREE worse left wingers than Matty Robson straight off the top of my head;

Tony Canham
Paul Butler
Russel Doig

And I'm sure there are more too.

Aye, I thought 'worst ever player' might cause a bit more debate than 'best ever'. After all, the choice is so so wide.

I believe that Anthony Skedd is now a physiotherapist at Hartlepool General.

Dunno about worst ever player, but Matty Robson was unfairly used as a scapegoat & whipping boy

A fairly recent one, rarely have a seen a young kid as out of his depth in a Pools shirt as Andy Appelby. He couldn't get a game for Blyth Spartans last season and was loaned to Gateshead, two seasons after scoring a couple for a squad that nearly reached the championship sctatchinghead

Going back Skedd was woeful and i've seen corpses with more agility than Rob Moverley. Moverley will always feature because he ruined my day as mascot against Hereford (the game Pop Robson was caretaker manager after Bob Moncur had been sacked) I had listed my favourite player as Rob Mckinnon while we where warming up before the game the photographer (Frank Read? ) asked me who my favorite player was, he asked if Rob Mckinnon was still out but unfortunatly he wasn't.... he then uttered the imortal words "will Rob Moverley do?" So my framed photos of my special day are me with Rob 'stiff arse fooking' Moverley and not the flame haired Scottish international full back  banghead sadx

We lost 2-1 as well.....

Mick Docherty’s side had more than it’s fair share of cack.

Harry Wilson
Mick Buckley
Mick Whitfield
Alan Waddle
Alan Weir

In fact I’d say Mick Docherty's team was the worst I’ve witnessed at Pools.

Skedd was in the paper about a year ago for graduating in a physio uni course at Newcastle so Groovy could be right there. He's been living about 10 doors away from me for the last year and although the car isn't bad, I'm sure he's still living with his parents!

I'm not sure I could list one player I think is the worst, my top few would be Steve Jones, Tony Canham, Peter Beardsley, Paul Beavers, Richard Lucas and Lee Bullock.

One of my earliest memories was watching Nicky Peverell notch a brace (I think!) at Boothferry Park against Hull which we lost 3-2 (I think!).

I came away thinking he was a half decent player!

I think you might have the wrong guy TPP. Peverell never scored against Hull anywhere. Lee Ellison scored in a 2-3 at Boothferry in 93, with Southall getting the other

Lee Ellison it was! Think he was on loan from Darlo at the time.

The early nineties really were dire. Borrowing their 4th choice striker :uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh:

I can't remember the name but didn't a Pools player once break a corner flag taking a corner. He has to be in contention. Can anyone supply the name?

I'm staggered that out of the 4 pages of very worthy nominations no-one has mentioned Steve Jones. The worst keeper I've ever seen(and I've watched Tunks and Dibble!). One good game in many attempts; I couldn't look when the ball went anywhere near him.

I do think matters are more interesting if you consider value for money rather than just general lack of talent.

If we introduced value for Pools money by worked out a player's coefficient of crapness by the formula:

crapness= (performance/wages)

then I believe the lists of useless apprentices (Plaskett, Appleby etc) and 'oh go on then one last payday' tosspots (Trewick, Canham etc) would be overtaken.

For me the highest coefficients of crapness would be scored by:

3. Chris (£1500 pounds a bloody week, allegedly) LLewellyn

2. Michael (it doesn't matter how much he was on) Proctor

1. Lee Bullock

- And just to boil the blood of any closet Mag sympathisers Peter Beardsley would not be to far from that top three for me.

That was Billy Ward, happened right in front of me 73-74 season, Corner Flag corner!

On that basis I can't see how we don't have a winner

Apart from that goal in his first match, was it against Cambridge? Cracked in a belter from well outside the area, I don't think the keeper saw it coming.

I think it speaks volumes that this thread is far bigger the 'best' ever players one rolfl

Steve Jones and Chris Llewellyn are great calls, have we had a more pea hearted player than Llewellyn? Maybe John Gallacher!?

How garbage was David Rush during his second spell at the club  Also Stuart Irvine is a good call, I remember watching warm up at Boothferry Park on the day Hull went 4-0 up in about 20 minutes against us (Not long before Turner took over) Brian Honour was knocking crosses over to Irvine about six yards out with NO KEEPER in nets, I swear to God in about twenty attempts he scored twice rolfl

this thread could reach 100 pages. Easily. There are so many people who have disgraced the shirt in my lifetime that I can't even begin to list them. It's easier to generalise with a full squad from particular seasons - so mine are 76/77 season (except Poskett and Goad), 82/83 season (except the Linighans),83/84 season, 93/94 season (except MacPhail, Houchen and Southall), 94/95 season (except MacPhail, Houchen and Southall). A few other seasons have seen us produce poor results with under-performing players, who should have done better than they did because they had the ability -but couldn't be arsed to do it - and other seasons where we have had four or five class players mixed with five or six donkeys.
