As you can see Im back from my 14th Glastonbury so heres a few thoughts & comments.

The Music:
Thursday night I caught Urban Voodoo Machine in a small out of the way tent, made my weekend.
Friday,
stumbled acrosss The Coral who were fine then spent the evening watching Amy Winehouse followed by Damian Marley.Amy was good, and pissed,at one point she fell over & spilt a pint all over the stage, some guy had to come & mop it up.Damian Marley was spot on,90 minutes or so of mainly dancehall style reggae.
Saturday
The Men They Couldnt Hang were exactly as expected, which was fine by me.Later on in the dance tent Mika put on a great gig, loads of energy, thouroughly entertaing & great fun.Finished the night in the Acoustic tent with The Waterboys who never dissappoint
Sunday
Started the day with The Waterboys again, followed by Damian,Steven & Ziggy Marley doing Bobs greatest hits, absolutely sweet n dandy.
Sunday evening I was working on the main stage viewing platform so got Shirley Bassey, dunno what all the fuss was about. The Manic Street Preachers, who Ive never liked, but they were actually good. The Kaiser Chiefs were exactly as you would expect. The Who were very good.

The weather was an absolute pain in the arse,I would say definetely the worst in all my visits,we had some rain every day & almost constant rain through Friday,Saturday,Sunday. The site was a fecked up swamp from Friday morning onwards & I returned absolutely 100% knackered.

Working as a disabled steward meant camping in the disabled campsite, what a godsend that was,no toilet queues on a morning, campsite minibus to ferry all my gear between the camp site & car park, plus the disabled car park is right on the exit gate so it was only 20 minutes to get off site.
The Journey there was a piece of cake, left Hartlepool 9:30,put the tent up on site at 3:30.The Journey home, once we got offsite we hit a traffic queue & did 19 mile to the motorway in 2 hours, steady going for a while then we hit the M1 & did around 30 mile in over 3 hours.6 hours to get there, almost 11 to get home

To be continued.........

Damian,Steven & Ziggy Marley

Are the kids as good as Daddy was then GC?

The only reggae act I have ever seen live was Eddie Grant in an outdoor concert in Sheffield and he was quality, Mica Paris was on the same bill as a 19 year old so that gives you an idea of how long ago it was.

Where do you get tickets for this. I have zero interest in going myself but my sister would like to. Where do you apply?

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk will give you all the info. She will need to pre-register (with photo) first in early 2008 and tickets go on sale usually in April.

Mr I,I will post details for registering etc when the time comes.
I know that Glastonbury is now regarded by some as being too commercial & full of sponsorship, which to some extent it is,but it is still the best festival out there & the only one that you could remove the bands from & still have a festival.
Back in 89 at my first one it was a totally different creature to what it is now but the change had to come. The fence jumpers were initially just a small part of the crowd, mostly people who made a last minute decisin but couldnt get tickets.By 2000 there were as many fence jumpers as there were ticket holders & it was full of muggers & thieves, everyone you spoke to had something nicked during the weekend & it was becoming dangerous.
The only way to stop the toerags was to build the superfence & increase security, that had to be paid for so the sponsorship was increased, but dont fall for the commercial image that it gets from the press, there is a lot more to Glastonbury than the telly can put across.
I will definetely be there working again next year, but I dont think I would go as a punter again.

Oh I like Jamaican music, the music was the best thing about the holiday there, especially the local Radio station......wait for it............IRIE FM!!!! I kid you not.

reggae in da mooornin
reggae in da evenin'
reggae at niiightime
on irie f mmmm......

Top jingle.

I went to the Marley mausoleum and paid me dues, and paid this rasta kid for a bag of weed which I threw away unsampled. I just think there's much better stuff off the island. Horace Andy for instance.
