Away commentators, obviously the local media reporting, but most do talk their teams up and last nights was no different, the two commentators laying it on with a trowel…but I had a chuckle as their ‘excellent ‘ team made three immediate substitutions indicating the manager mightn’t have shared their views.

The number of times they referred to their players and said “he’s been excellent tonight” would make you think they were winning 4-0, when in fact they were getting beat at home 2-0!

The complete lack of cynicism about 'their' players was striking - no Alty player had a bad game as they powered to a 2-0 home defeat.
The football culture must be different up here because there's no way Poolies - or Boro fans for that matter - would put up with such guff.

To be fair their team didn’t play badly. They were just beaten by a well organised team, who defended like lions and attacked on the counter. Well done Pools and Grayson

you are right about the football culture being different but as local commentators they have to attempt to put everything in a bright light for their team. its not as if any of their lads played bad but were just beaten by a better team on the night. fact is they had a couple of lads from alty i would be happy to see in a pools shirt. i have heard there main commontator before and he is far better than most you hear.

I laughed when one said we were nowhere near as good as Rochdale.
But they were lucky to beat Alty with a deflected goa, while we beat the 2-0 in their own backyard & we never let them get a meaningful shot in.

I'd take Crawford back, would be brilliant in this system

Bring back Ivan Ash surely Raj can have no problems with him.

Was thinking Altrincham wouldn't know what hit them if they'd had Ivan Ash commentating on them.

Found a Bunker thread from 2011 with a couple if classic Ashisms:

(Neil) "Orstin was all over him like a cheap suit"

"Bjornsson's trapped that ball further than Horwood can kick it"

My favourite was, "he attacked the ball like a Maltese hairdresser "

but they did give us credit in how we set up and played.

The one i remember from him was when he attributed a shot(?) to a certain player only for his co commentator to say he was substituted 15 minutes ago.
A classic "Ashism"

Aye, he was very generous in his praise.
