Harold Hornsey for me.

Had a pint or two with him outside the pub in Underhill, Barnet, way back in Aug 98, told me that the club were trying to get Beardsley signed up. I didn't believe him at first but he was right.

Great bloke.

The one who raised Pools profile beyond our wildest dreams and nearly got us to the Championship, Hodcroft who like any chairman had his faults.

Harold, a true Poolie for doing his level best with his resources, recognising he couldn't take us any further so finding the right buyer in IOR.

You must have had Coxberg in a gallant second place, given your unusual liking of the crooked Kenny! sctatchinghead

There must be someone on here with the balls to own up ??

I’ve got a question - how come Poolie1968 has knocked ten years off his age? Is it a masterful attempt at hiding his true identity?

There was something about Gibson that made me smile despite his lack of morals. An uncle of mine was a textbook "lovable rogue" and maybe Gibson reminded me of him?

And us singing "He's big, he's fat, he doesn’t pay his VAT" just made his brief roller-coaster chairmanship even funnier.

I'd buy him a pint if I bumped into the fat twat in a pub, but certainly not Coxberg.

Hodcroft, though I doubt I've have got on with him as a person, but he ran a tight ship, and delivered the clubs best years, though I think it was ran too tight at times, and that cost us Championship football.

Hornsey and Hodcroft were better than Gibbo in many ways - but Gibbo was the first (in my lifetime) to give us hope - to bring some exciting and successful football to the Vic - and for that reason alone, he gets my vote.

Gibson’s success all came from him giving the manager a bigger budget because he “forgot” to pay the club’s tax bills, which nearly got the club shut down. He was worse than Coxhall

Oh give over. Yes he had some altercations with HMRC but 'worse than Coxhall' - jeez, give your head a shake and don't choke on your sausage sarnie.

We were hours away from being wound up under Gibson, and it was all his fault because he chose not to pay the bills. If it wasn’t for Hornsey, we wouldn’t be here.

Coxhall was a front man with Goldberg supplying the money. Once Goldberg stepped away, Coxhall was thrown under the bus, he didn’t have any money to do the role on his own.

I guess it all depends on what you want from a chairman. Gibson was temporarily very successful, but nearly killed the club because of it. I’d rather have someone who builds slowly and sustainably, so that we know it’s all not just going to implode at any minute.

Goldberg never put a penny in, he took plenty out though. Coxhall was a patsy.

Cooper was going through family problems and was going up north regularly, Scott told Hodcroft he wasn’t focused on the job, why did he not just put him on ‘gardening leave’ ?
Hodcroft must rue the day he made Scott the manager though ?

do not laugh but it could have been raj singh. if only he,d have opened the pools wallet after our cup/trophy runs and not employed the mint we could easily be talking about the possibility of league 2 play offs now.

Raj is a weird one. It seems to be his character that lets him down. His decisions seem to be based on emotion rather than logic. Accy is right that it could have been so different. The season we went up - say another £200k spent could have keep Chally and bolstered the squad. Raj would have made more money, so as well as making poor footballing decisions, he made terrible business decisions.
The difference between him and Hornsey couldn’t be more different when it comes to dealing with the fanbase. Hornsey the best for me - he made real personal sacrifices to save the club.

Been repeated many times, DC was offered 3 times his salary, money to spend and every night in his own bed instead of trawling the M62 every week, he was never going to stay.

but that does not mean the club had to start years of decline because a manger left. the day we were promoted at bristol was the start of his mistakes on top of mistakes that has lead us into the situation we find ourself in. feel its where challinor ended up, a team below us, which was the problem and nothing would have been said if he had gone up to league 1 with another side instead of doing the opposite.
