The Meeeeja love to bring up the subject of chlorinated chicken in these trade talks, but even if it comes into the country it’ll be labelled as such and should be a lot cheaper, so you have the choice of not buying it.
However, no one mentions tha fact all our vacuum packed salads in a sealed bag are also chlorinated, yet it doesn’t seem to put people off.
I’d support British farmers but I’m not gonna tell others how to spend their money, none of mu business.

Bottom line is that chlorinated chicken must be safe, it's been sold to one of the largest populations in the world for years and it's not harming people. Totally agree we'd all Ave a choice to buy or not.
Only issues I could think of is the likes of school meals and hospitals would use it if it's cheap and maybe that would not suit some consumers or their guardians?

Probably tastes better than Coronation chicken.

Always the last sandwich left in the vending machine on a night shift.

In the UK, we have chlorine-free chicken. Chicken washed in chlorine, and other US imports like hormone-injected beef, are currently banned in the UK. In the past, the government announced they would not negotiate to remove that ban in a trade deal.
Was part of the deal to allow chlorinated chicken and hormone injected beef from the U.S.

It's more to do with why they chlorinate their chicken than the chlorine but agree it could be left to people's choice

If we're accepting lower welfare meat from other countries then why not the US?

This is it.
America has something like 10x the cases (and deaths) of foodborne illnesses then us due to their horrific welfare standards. None of this makes as good a sound bite as chlorinated chicken though.
I think leaving it up to people’s choice is fine but everything would need to be very visibly labelled and realistically all that’s going to happen is it will undermine British farmers. They will then be forced to accept less for their meat due to imported being cheaper, leading to them having to accept much lower margins or the U.K. lowering its welfare standards.
Would personally be for only accepting imports of meat that meet our standards but that’s just me

A Government minister speaking this morning said our ususal food standards apply, so I assume it won’t be allowed into the country?
