I can’t get over how high Hartlepool council tax is, I live in a three storey town house right in the centre of York off Bootham and pay less than that, madness.

was over 30 when that was my monthly wage. the thin is they will still be moaning and crying the poor tale. big problem is so many are paying reduced council tax for various reasons and not all are genuine.

i,d guess the average wage in york is also a lot higher. they never look still at cuts they can make or the ability of those in work to what they can pay.

This government must get around a table on a daily basis and think 'how can we annoy the majority of the population today'...Starmer obviously hates anyone who isn't a wokified minority loving subordinate, I'm looking forward to Friday morning as when the results unfold of all of the local elections (that this government hasn't postponed) flood in and people tell them just how woeful a job they are doing. My only worry is that they are so far removed from the concerns of the common people in this country they'll just brush it off as the norm in these by-elections and council elections and state this is the norm isn't it?.

Anybody else feel the police and crime commisioner is a pointless new role and could be money well saved without one in this specific role. Its not as if our streets have become safer since we all got one or the police themselves have become super efficiant. we have had police around much longer than that role has been around.

The reason I asked was because it doesn't work out correctly for me. I divided that figure by 10 (months) and it came up with £162 and I'm paying £194.

Year on year governments have reduced the amount they give to Councils, just another form of income tax.
We are also paying inflated salaries to people in non jobs as well, the Chief Fire Officer is probably on around £200k with a gold plated pension not to to mention how many CEs on the council are on over £100k.

What happened to the council tax on your last place you rented Mutley? Something about the landlord wanting another month?

Of course it is, it’s a political appointment so having a politician in the role is in my opinion, dangerous.

We came to an agreement with the landlord about the extra month...met in the middle.
We are in band B.

Band B according to Hartlepool Council will be and I am guessing here the exact amounts, £195.04 for the first month and then 9 payments of £194.

It may have something to do with the big cuts in government funding to some authorities including Hartlepool over recent years.

You have also got to remember people on benefits receive a reduction in their Council Tax, the shortfall has to made up.

It sort of is with the property band system.

Rates take no account of the income going into a household.
Everybody use the services but only householders pay.
Maybe a local tax so everyone pays who can pay to replace the rates.
Share the burden out.
Family opposite us have four cars and the ‘kids’ are working yet pay nothing despite using Council services.

Some of it will be used to help house Ukranians, and some of it to pay the council tax and benefits for those who can't get jobs because UK employers and employment agencies prefer to employ Eastern Europeans

do not worry as the foods and drinks that are now called healthy will somehow become unhealthy if there is a world wide shortage of them. best way is to ignore everything they say and eat and drink everything in moderation. at least then the short life we live might then be worth living.

it does, but you can understand why the government actually did that. they just spent spent spent on anything that most locals never wanted in the first place and was like giving the keys of a boozer to an alcoholic. with all the so called brains about due to university education you would think a far better and cheaper alternative would be around somewhere. no town or city is that unique and the local problems and money needed are the same in keighley as it is in hartlepool.

Generally down to the fact most Councillors haven’t a clue when it comes to finance and get their eyes taken out by private contractors. The people employed to look after the finances have little or no experience in the private sector. Take Dave Stubbs 44 years on the council worked his way up to C.E., good luck to the fella but was never was employed outside the Civic.

Most Councillors in the big Party’s are just sheep, it helps if you can get compliant wannabe’s….they’re like dogs waiting to get their bellies scratched.
What you get is when money comes in for projects is what impresses the Councillors…what a pity they don’t consult the public instead of listening to yappy groups with big elbows.

Snowy they do public consultations but most people can’t be bothered to get involved and at the end of the day the decision has already been made prior to the consultation.

The problem you have is those on universal credit or disability get a free pass on council tax. After removing all the mine payers, those that work have to split the entire council expenditure between them.
