At the risk of repeating myself once again, that’s the difference between starting again with a ground intact and doing it without a ground like Darlo.

Trouble is hanging onto the ground, but I suspect any local politician trying it o; here would need a Post Code in Alaska.

Another major hurdle is that every league below NL only has 1 automatic promotion slot.

Well done to Bury and the 8,000-odd fans who celebrated their promotion. But they went bust 6 years ago and have only just reached level 8 in the football pyramid. Two more promotions in consecutive seasons and they'll reach the dizzy heights of the National League North.

Not one of those fans 'wanted' or 'looked forward' to going bust. I struggle to get my head round the mentality of anyone who actually WANTS to go down that route rather than stinking out the NL for a few more seasons till a decent owner comes along.
I dunno, maybe it sounds better to people who stopped going to games years ago sctatchinghead

Maybe not. It could be done if the council engineered the triumphant return of Ackers the Yacker and his husband.

Them two are well brazen enough to perform that dirty deed.

I wish people would put this to bed now. NOBODY HAS SAID WE SHOULD GO DOWN THAT ROUTE AS A FIRST RESORT. NOBODY. I don't think there is anyone in the whole fan base who thinks that and we have got a few dafties in it

Elected officials need votes. They won't win them by doing away with the ground.

Fair play to them, bet they'll get to League 1 before Pools do.

Of course its better to improve on what we currently have, a new owner, with money, clout, who is savvy, with a plan and a vision, but that seems very unlikely, the reality being, stuck in the National League season after season, with more chance of getting relegated than promoted, makes the start from scratch logic somewhat appealing. Its exactly this mediocrity and the acceptance of it, that has caused long time supporters like myself to stop going to games, and do I miss the drudgery of it all, defeat after defeat, going around in circles, rinse and repeat, not a chance.

As I've said before though, I wouldn't bet against Pools being the first club to start from scratch and unlike the other clubs who've had to do it, make a complete balls of it.

Actually Mr I has been floating the idea as a preferred option to start again as a fan-owned club for a few years now. He's entitled to his opinion and certainly not daft, but I don't agree with him.

Well with all the rubbish we've had for some time I agree with Mr I. We could have been debt free and at least competng in whatever league we are in. And I say this as a regular attender.

My post wasn't a particularly serious one, but your reply suggests that you are pretty naïve as to just how bent and dangerous Labour are.

Hypothetical situation: The council announce some committee who are going to look at demolishing the Vic and building a load of social housing on the land, and ask the good folk of Hartlepool to get involved via some sort of questionnaire.

Now this document would certainly not be as obvious as "Do you want Pools or housing?", as even Labour aren't that fucking stupid.

There'd be at least 40 questions, most of which would appear to be pretty pointless and/or harmless at first glance, but wouldn't be in reality.

And after analysing the results, the questions they deliberately engineered to produce a conclusion of "We want houses, fuck Pools" would be announced to all the local news sources, and of course Satan's "social" media.

Now a huge majority of the town are for the idea.

And the spin-doctors will work out exactly what it will cost them in any future election against how much cash they'll pocket from Government schemes, how many (temporary) jobs will be created, how many contracts their mates/family will get blah blah blah blah blah..!

The few Pools supporters who bother to vote in the next council election will be a piss in the ocean compared to the homeless/feckless/brainless/immigrants etc etc etc who'll gladly chomp on the cock of the Labour Party for the rest of their meaningless lives in the hope of getting a free house.

And that's precisely how Labour operate at both local and national level.

Thankfully this probably won't happen, but don't doubt for one second that Labour aren't that devious - because they most certainly are.

I was advocating it as a preferred option to more debt and more shysters taking over the club. Of course we all want a billionaire to buy the club but in my view it won’t happen. There have been smoke and mirrors and statements about x and y being interested but it’s all clouded in mist. Really why is secrecy needed?

I reckon starting again is better than another owner who loads us up with debt because it is precisely that debt which stops the club developing.

Are you not allowed to post anything if you don't pledge allegiance to a future phoenix club? Bit strange when some of the most prolific posters on here don't go and support the present Pools?

Well why question my post on the grounds that I've declared I won't be attending games if we go down the phoenix club route?

Once anyone puts a massage out it’s open to scrutiny.

Otherwise it would just be a series of unchallenged statements.
The clue is in the name message boards and all messages invite messages to share opinions.

It wasn't debate though was it, it wasn't a response to the content of my post it was a challenge to why I felt I had a right to post, imo of course.

problem is its like a lot in the modern world where you have to follow a certain line of thought unless you love to be the odd man out on many subjects. message boards vary especially football ones on subjects away from football and some are very left leaning with modern liberal views. fortunetly the bunker is not one of them.
