Always look better??
Sat in the canteen at work....the English, Irish and Scottish nibbling away at their cheese sarnies and a bag of crisps.
The Romanians, Latvians, Ukrainians, Polish etc have a selection of meats, cheeses, bread, pates, fruit etc all laid out and all tucking in and sharing...like a communal meal.
Looks fucking delicious aswell.
Might have cheese and chutney tomorrow.

The UK diet is very bad. Its a mix of the worst local stuff ie pies pasties and American fast food. The number of gross fat kids is a horror show. Surely its nothing short of child abuse and will be a massive drain on the NHS.

We used to check out Polish fishing boats out back in the day and they’d invite you in for lunch…….the (literally) sun dried cod and vodka with bread was given the swerve……along the the fish eggs and dry cracker like biscuits…mind you they were in the Eastern block then.

as a kid cheap fish and chips were regular meals with at least a couple of slices of proper bread and butter washed down with a glass of fizzy pop. funny i was not a gross fat kid and there was only one fatty in the class which was always the case. far too much is placed on diet above lifestyle.

You’re right there Accy, it’s like the town grinding to a halt when schools open and close…you see some parents turning up an hour before school comes out reading books.., ffs the kids will have flat, feet and no sense of direction….scholls break up for a fortnight now and the roads will be quiet.
At the senior school I used to walk along Catcote Road from the Tynebrooke junction to where the White House pub is (then St Francis school site) and down Grange Road to where the Police Station is now.

had a couple of miles walk to and from school plus at dinner time also. we had something i rarely see at schools or waiting for there transport home. a bloody good rain or overcoat to keep us all dry. then it was the big rush to get the homework done just to get out again for a bit more freedom for a few hours rain, snow or shine.

Always walked to school, even when we moved to Horden and it was over two miles to me school in Peterlee.

Me mam always give me the bus fare, but I took the healthy option and walked.

And spent the bus money on 10 Regal, and me dinner money on a Devon split from the baker's shop in the town centre ...!

Think i can remember when you could get 5 Park Drive on the way to school, Think it was Park Drive.

The difference is the majority of kids sit indoors playing games on their electronic machines, we were always outdoors running about, playing footy etc so any excess fat built up due our diet good or bad was burned off.

Very true Jamie….it’s predicted that due to this lack of physical activity and diet, average life expectancy may reverse for the first time in history in the UK.

they still would if their parents allowed them or took their electronic stuff off them. something we seem incapable of doing. however others do like asian parents where they are the only kids running around in parks in a mixed race area. even my lads polish partner does the same with two 8 year old lasses who need to let off steam.

No chance the parents are doing the same, Covid made people lazy, food delivery companies have done very well out of it. TV remote in one hand phone in the other to order food in.

out with my dog at 9.30 last night and was talking to a lass with hers who live in the next street for about 5 minutes. there must have been about 10 cars passing in that time and most were take away ones. its busier at that time of night than 9.30 in the morning. she noticed this too.

To add to that Snowy we did a lot more physical work than people do now albeit in some nasty conditions but now it’s a desk job sat in front of a screen.

Now you mention it, broke my leg, but that was not work related, but at work broke my nose three times, both thumbs and ribs several times….numerous stiches, 14 for a problem with a bottle… someone once accidentally stabbed me in my left buttock…off to hospital..stitches and a tetanus jab in the right one..I had to flaming kneel on the back seat of my transport back…..not much chance of getting injuries off a screen like that.

and anybody who had a mental health problem you knew quite well that they were in a real serious way and deserved all the help they could get. now today, i,ll just leave it there.

In my industry the biggest health problem was over indulging in alcohol, it was acceptable no matter how old you were to be out most nights. It was curtailed when employers started random alcohol tests at work.
