Apparently it's been done and a group of wealthy individuals are going to plough shit loads of investment into the club. The only reason I can think of is the location which has a 200,000 population. Newcastle around 800,000 so perhaps hoping by investing long term they can get up the leagues and do a Wrexham ( about to be promoted yet again cheers Raj ) and slowly build the attendances. With a million population on Tyneside I am sure they could attract attendances of 10,000 plus with investments and promotions. sctatchinghead I put that on the Gateshead message board and the only reply I got was a laugh. Does anyone else believe the takeover is based on that or not and if not what. sctatchinghead

I don't doubt that negotiations are ongoing but the 'stadium' is a challenge for any incoming owners and I hear that a number of alternative sites are being examined - the local population is always going to be drawn to the barcodes and lets not forget the likes of South Shields and Sunnerlan just along the road - so the catchment area won't be that different to our own. Anyway, all this just shows what can (possibly) happen with the right sort of ownership in place.

The proof of the pudding as they say, who's to say Gateshead haven't found their very own versions of TMH, Coxhall & Co, Reynolds, etc etc

even the old gateshead had problems attracting fans to there old proper ground ending up with them being the scapegoat to get peterboro into the league. even if they managed to get back into the league they,ll never fill there ground and have to rely on away fans who will take the shit to give em a decent gate because its just one game a year. a proper new ground will help some way but not in the numbers they really need unless its bankrolled for ever.

Although Campbell is adored at that club for his time there I have seen many post saying Campbell is finished now and is not good enough for our club. Even seen messages saying he will end up at South Shields but they don't want him back now. I was told in August Campbell had telephoned Elliot asking him to sign him but couldn't afford his wages so he then called Pools and got a deal. If you look back at his first interview he actually says how much he loves Heed and has them in his heart. His heart was never in Pools and it shows. banghead

Their manager Carl Magnay says the talk of a takeover has been going on "for months" behind the scenes. Sounds like he's blaming the uncertaintly for the Heed's recent poor form:

" From a recruitment point of view, we don’t know what structure we are working under because we have been told it’s happening imminently since January. So week-to-week, we don’t know if it’s happening.
“The players have been exposed to it, they’ve been aware of it and they know, we know, they need help, we need help.
“It’s been frustrating and people upstairs need to take accountability and realise just how exposed players are to it isn’t good. The uncertainty has been a hinderance and we are feeling the brunt."

The non-league transfer deadline is this Thursday. I guess the proof of the pudding will be in who they can get through the door before then, because they're heading out of the play-off places the way things are at the minute.

Will they be allowed to take part in the Playoffs - assuming they manage to finish in the much coveted top 7? sctatchinghead
