That’s where Clough went into their dressing room and asked them politely to turn the music down, they didn’t he went back again and smashed it !
One of good ones was when he is interviewed alongside Revie after he was sacked from Leeds.

best evening i have spent in my life was an evening with brian clough where i got a ticket by curtesy of a ref when it was held in huddersfield. you could see how players would run through a brick wall for him and could be equally serious and funny every other sentance he came out with. none of this shear bollox you hear nowadays from those involved in the game with them all sounding the same.

Crossley has some quality stories about Cloughie.
Apparently Cloughie always referred to him as Shithouse, until one game he called him Jigsaw-

At half time Crossley says 'Gaffer, why have you been calling me Jigsaw?'

Classic Cloughie retorts - 'Cause every time the ball goes into our box, You go to Fucking Pieces!' clappp

Dean Saunders also has an excellent story about how he signed for Cloughie, round at Archie Gemmill's house

This may be above not looked at them all. The Mark Tinkler story when he went to cloughies house. Another is I met one of Brian's two gardeners on holiday in 1995 who became a friend. He told me that in the garden Brian had a small wooden shed with his own personal toilet in. He would walk past the lads with a folded newspaper and say "morning lads and smile " on the way to his personal bog. One day his wife ( Barbara ) came out after Brian had left and asked the lads if Brian ever carries a bottle of Vodka on his trips to the bog. They said no just a newspaper under his arm. She went in the bog and looked for secret places he kept bottles in and found none. She started to walk back up the path to the house then suddenly turned and asked my mate to go and lift the top off cistern. Inside to everyone's surprise was a empty small quarter size bottle. She confronted Brian that afternoon in the garden but he denied it was him and told her it's those bloody gardeners. He called them over to try to twist the real story but she said " Brian for goodness sake own up to your problem " and marched away angry. Brian turned to the lads and said why did you fookers open the cistern you work for me not my wife. He smiled and said well I need to find a better hiding place for tomorrow morning.

Ralph Guthrie used to live in Teesbrooke Ave, worked in the shipyards as a joiner.
Also another goalie used to live in the same avenue 70's time, name escapes me, will have to look it up.

Interesting Reg because I rented a house 5 from the end on the right hand side near the top end while I waited for a contract exchange back in 1994.

What a good question Stocksfield_Poolie I honestly cannot remember the number but It was the only place I have ever lived that had three digits. Possibly 150 or very close. sctatchinghead

Talk of Bill Shankly reminded me that me yacker nana (originally from South Hetton) was in the same class as Bob Paisley at school.

And later on, after she married me grandad and moved to Horden, Stan Anderson became such a close friend of the family that us grandkids called him Uncle Stan.

If anyone has any shittier "claims to fame" than me I'd love to hear them...

What a change in a great fella years later, brought tears to my eyes, very sad to see some one end up this way, he was only mid 60s, speech is definitely slurred,

My in laws are from Northumberland & the father-in-law was good at football & was called for a trial. After the match he was unfortunately turned down, but one young lad was selected by the scout. That young lad was.... Bobby Charlton!!

I grew up playing football with Andy Linighan and later David on our back field saxon field. We had a young lad who always came to watch us a proper cocky super confident lad. He turned up one day with a full Leeds Utd strip on that included those plastic white numbers tied at top of the socks. He was bragging about getting invited to Elland Road for his birthday and getting this free strip has a present from Leeds. He said his dad had agreed Leeds could sign him when he reached 16yr ( the best team back then ). We thought he was full of shit but apparently it was true. Anyway he was winding Andy up who was around 6ft even back then. He kept asking if he could have a game and eventually we agreed. He was small only half Andy 's size but he absolutely destroyed us virtually on his own neither of us got near him.He nut megged us both and was amazing for a young lad. Andy got pissed off and said when you or me get the chance slid tackle the little twat into that muddy puddle that will sort him out. It wasn't long before he came running at us again but this time crunch into the puddle he went sliding along covered in wet mud all over him. He looked like a chocolate bar. He got up started shouting and said you have ruined my birthday and muddied my new white Leeds strip my dad will kill you. He walked off back to Clavering and never returned. Next time I seen him he was playing for Pools. Strange thing was Andy looked farly ordinary back then but Paul Dobson played like George Best .

John was the oldest but I had nothing to do with him infact never once spoke to him despite the fact I lived next to them for 3 years in Fulthorpe Avenue. I believe John played in the local non league at Bishop Auckland sctatchinghead. I also believe very sadly John's 18 yr old daughter got killed in a crash crash on the A19 on way back from teesside park cinema. Andy was tall skinny and barbie like and easy to nut meg and looked nothing like a up and coming Premier League player but he proved he was a terrific player later. Not sure if he ever played for England but he should have after what he did at Arsenal. After Pools David had a terric career at Ipswich. He was the more aggressive centre half while Andy was a master class not unlike the brilliant Hanson at Liverpool.
