Going through some old diaries I was reminde of something in the early 80’s I was taking part in a Navy exercise preparing charts when the Captain (God) in charge turned up. The next day this officer told me the Captain wanted to see me at 11.00 and I had to report to his office.
I was very, very wary….but turned up accompanied by a junior officer…went in and he told the officer to disappear…very odd…. then said to me he had a ‘mission’ for me…. sctatchinghead…….then said he was told I was a supporter of ‘Hartlepool’s United’……even more baffled I nodded…he then said..”Excellent, one of my daughters collects football lapel badges, so could you acquire one for me before Friday?….which of course I could. A proper gent.
Trouble is now I can’t recall which lapel badge it was…be about 82 if my memory serves me well.
Any ideas..?

The blue triangular badge with the stag would be early eighties. I remember getting a few along with some car window stickers "Don't follow me, follow Hartlepool United". My first Pool's merchandise.

I got the idea for that one off a Spanish truck despite checking out loads of poses for the stag….no internet then so all book work at the reference library.

a new window sticker should come out saying don,t follow me as you might end up at hartlepool united. the badge would have the mencap logo as well as the stag on it.

I thought it was early 70's when Snowy designed it.

You’re correct……My badge was in 72 according to our lass….I thought it was 73 but arguing with her is never wise.

Definitely 70s, I would say even 74 or 75, I've got one somewhere in the house. Also got another one from around the same period, in the shape of a rosette with Rink Ender printed emblazoned on it. Think I bought them along with the previous weeks away programme, from the hut that was situated for a couple of seasons in the mid 70s at the back of the Rink End.
