Most teams at our level don’t…..we aren’t unique on that score.

I think you'll find we are. Most of these clubs have only been in the Football League a fraction of the time Pools have, Bromley, Accrington, Crawley, Bromley etc, yet get the type of cup draws Pools could only dream of.

Of course it helps immensely if you can manage to get to the 3rd round in the first place

As well as been a poor club on and off the pitch, Pools are also an unlucky club, which may go some way to explaining the former.

“Never get draws like this” Pools v Man U ( the great Busby Babes) Chelsea ( league champions) Burnley, Notts Forest, Stoke, the late sixties were great for us with over 17000 crowds.

If Pools had beaten Brackley and Stockport (away) we'd be playing Palace again down at their place.

If if. Just the thought of playing Stockport at their gaff with Sarll still manager is enough to make my blood run cold.

trouble is most poolies were not born when we did get a decent exciting cup draw to attract part time fans to make em full time ones. its free publicity for the club with money on top if we did. could never get excited about palace away myself.

Money obviously guarantees nothing, but it certainly helps.

Born in East London on the last day of the London Olympics (the one before London 2012) I followed my father as a Spurs supporter ( his family came from Hartlepool). After several moves I have ended up in Tamworth in 1991.

I became Secretary of Bolehall Swifts, a local side, and the number 2 side to the number 1 Tamworth.

Through the help of the Mayor, later the MP, Brian Jenkins, the Council donated £30k so that Bolehall could erect Floodlights.

We arranged a friendly with Tamworth for the official opening of the lights with the special guest being a friend of our Chairman, Mark Hughes, the very person who picked out Tamworth's ball in last nights 3rd round draw.

More than likely, then in 3024, we’ll suddenly be swamped by team from the very top of the Premiership…Forest Green Meteorites, Ebbsfleet Hotspur, Shotton Utd and Transchester Excited….the top four teams….mind you, at £12.5 million to stand at the Raj the XXIV Stadium, there might not be a full house. :angry-tappingfoot:

I see why you say that Mr Hogans - but us drawing Palace is not necessarily the case.

We probably would not have been assigned the same number ball as Brackley As the numbering tends to be alphabetical by league which is why Arsenal are normally Number 1. And as Brackley are the league below us we'd have been grouped alphabetically with the Conference clubs- so would have been a different numbered ball.

Now that the greedy bastard's have done away with replays- (when previously you'd definitely know which team was awaiting the winners of
the tie)- it would now be impossible to guess.

Fair point, but bang goes about a million pub conversations a season if everyone knew that.

actually glad they have got rid of replays for a couple of reasons. if by some miracle we drew the mags or swindon in the 4th round what a bummer it would be if swindon beat em in a replay. then getting a draw at the home of a team in a higher league will never make the replay an odds on win for the home team in the replay. always feel the first chance you get is your best one.

Replays was a part of the 'magic of the cup'...just another way to erode the 'magic of the cup' and ensure the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. KUNTS!!!

It’s the smaller clubs having to cut back to make more space for the big clubs in more lucrative competitions.

its the same in all sports though when its all about those at the top and very little about those who without them there would be no top or bottom. a lot is down to the level of where you support your team. in football the premier league fan looks at the game in a different manner than those in the 2nd division or the national league. like it or not they are in a far greater number and have always been. we do not understand them and neither do they understand us. the only problem with football against other sports is its harder to get from grass roots to the top because money is the ruling factor and the ones with the biggest clout are only to offer crumbs whilst the eat the cake.

I thought that we would have had the same number, I think that the Premier and Championship clubs get put in alphabetically, but the first drawn game from round 2 is then ball number 45 etc etc

what magic of the cup. its just a cash cow now for even small clubs who are more interested in the money they get out of it now through sponsorship. its got no magic for fans either who need bribing to attend with lowering the gate price, closing parts of the ground to get a lower attendance than for a league game. when there was magic of the cup clubs never needed to do this.
