Being rationed before Xmas, the supply to businesses that is, now if this an attempt to make it "exclusive" so they can hike the price up they can shove it, even though I like it it's expensive enough as it is.

just re brand the thing as a craft beer a real ale and idiots will pay a fortune for something they previously got cheaper.

I think it's also being fuelled by the fact the rugby fraternity have made it their drink of choice, so they can't sell it fast enough during the looming Six Nations.

Try Forged Irish Stout, brewed in Dublin, they sell it in the 9 Anchors in Seaton, think £4.50 a pint, 4.3% not as harsh as Guinness but a great pint.

It’s just the latest fad. Everyone seems to be drinking it these days, just like a couple of year ago it was fruit cider. I’m convinced most people who drink it don’t even like it, just tolerate it. I’m aware taste can change but I don’t believe you can go from being a big lover of fruity cider to a big lover of Guinness, they’re two massive extremes of the spectrum.

They've recently taken it out
Quote:
due to the recent court case involving the owner of Forged Irish Stout, Connor McGregor,British suppliers have decided to end contracts with them meaning we can no longer get hold of it.

They're replacing it with Brennans Irish Stout.

Brewdogs Black Heart is also a decent alternative to Guinness

There are lots of other stouts and Porters from the likes of supermarkets and pubs.
Boycott Guinness the greedy twats.

Based on % of income.
The Cost of going to the pub is a lot more expensive than the 80s 90s 00s 10s.

Prices go up.
Less people go in.
Pubs shut.

Lock down cheap cans n firesticks has played a major part in the demise of pub life.

As for Guinness it's mank.

I think in general the night out in the pub for us older ones must be a thing of the past going by any alcohol price not just Guinness.I was in the pub, 9 Coins in Seaton the other week, 2 couples came in, one of the fellas got a round in 2 pints plus 2 shorts with mixers for the women, £20 ! How can people afford that, a few drinks and you have gone through £100.

A night out for younger ones is different too.

When I left school in the late 70s I was aged 16, got straight into work and lived at home.

There was a massive group of us and we all went to the pubs more often than not because we had spending power and freedom. How many younger people (aged 20 or under) can say that?

Most of them have been pushed into Uni and have little cash (in fact building up debt) not only that, I’ve been told that even boozing at Uni is on the fall as students are broke and also prefer a healthier lifestyle.

The days of busy midweek pubs seem to be over, they will sadly continue to close down.

I find it’s not just young people staying away from pubs. I work around the country and after work drinking is nothing like what it was. Money definitely an issue, perhaps people are more health conscious, work is just work instead of somewhere that you make good mates who you go out with. WFH obviously has an effect as well.
My son from 17yr old onwards and his mates still love a drink though but they really front load at home and don’t go out til late.

just glad i packed in drinking years ago as it would drive me mad having to pay prices i could not really afford in pubs. drinking at home even at christmas has never had any appeal to me as its just not the same or the atmosphere even if the house is full.

thats another problem late opening. nobody can afford or want to go out at 7 on a saturday night like we did when places shut at some stupid am and not 11. do they load up at home to save money or something to do to pass the time before they catch the last bus into town to go out. boozers opening longer with less customers is a real recipe for closure.

In some respects wages have outstripped the price of a pint, the minimum wage is just over £11, not many places if any where you would be paying that for a pint, there is must other reasons why the pub culture is dying out or is it people have less disposable income ?

Partly a money thing but also I think because they don’t want to sit round in an empty bar, like you say, loads of places don’t get going til late, so that’s when they go out.

Another interesting thing about going out is that gigs are finishing earlier, which is largely about people getting home more conveniently. There’s a band called Benefits from Middlesbrough who recently made a big deal about finishing by 10pm, in response to listening to fans. If it gets more people to gigs then great.

I tried it once, never again, certainly had a kick to it albeit I drank a litre of it, it used be 8.4% then reduced to 7.5% now 5.5%, not sure it’s still on the market.

Everyone’s taste is different, I bought 4 cans zero Guinness by mistake drank 50% of the first one poured the rest down the sink, I will stick with alcohol one.

always find all non alcho;ic versions of alcohilic drings crap and prefer a glass of pop. its like false meat for vegans. you either drink alcohol and eat meat and why bother with made up versions.
